The ENLIGHTEN Holiday Light Spectacle Returns to Grand Rapids with Exciting New Features

The beloved holiday celebration, ENLIGHTEN, is set to illuminate Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park once again, kicking off its third season on November 23 and continuing through January 10. This year's event promises to bring even more magic to the already stunning setting with exciting new additions that are sure to delight visitors.

ENLIGHTEN, presented by PNC Bank, has gained a reputation as a must-see winter experience in Michigan, attracting tens of thousands of guests each year, including many from beyond the state. The event transforms the gardens into a breathtaking winter wonderland, guiding attendees along a carefully curated one-mile walking path adorned with spectacular light installations that are synchronized to music. Visitors can expect to see an array of interactive elements that will enhance their festive experience.

One of the highlights of this year's display will be a remarkable reimagining of the signature installation, Scarlatti, by renowned artist Mark di Suvero. This section has been enhanced with new lighting, music, and choreography, offering returning guests a fresh perspective on this iconic piece. Furthermore, visitors can seek warmth in the newly added tent equipped with fire pits while enjoying food and beverages.

Families can also indulge in sweet treats at the hot chocolate bar located inside Mary’s Ice Cream Parlor in the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden, making it a cozy spot to gather. Along with the delicious offerings, guests can also find multiple food options scattered throughout the park, ensuring comfort and delight during their visit.

The evening culminates with an exquisite new finale within the Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory, providing an immersive indoor experience that showcases vibrant tropical landscapes transformed into a visual feast.

On select nights, guests can enjoy extended hours at the James Shirley Balk Café, open until 9 PM, offering them the opportunity to savor a meal either before or after their light viewing experience. Additionally, special ‘‘ENLIGHTEN Dinners’’ on selected dates will include delightful seasonal small plates alongside admission, making it an all-encompassing festive outing that even features a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Chief Operating Officer Carol Kendra emphasizes that ENLIGHTEN is much more than just a light show; it’s a celebration that intertwines art, culture, and nature. With innovative new features, such as the enhanced Scarlatti installation and adorable family-friendly amenities, this year’s festivities are poised to attract a wide range of attendees eager to share in the holiday spirit at Meijer Gardens.

Produced by the esteemed teams at Lightswitch and Upstaging, both of whom are specialists in creating engaging visual experiences, ENLIGHTEN continues to thrive as a premier event in the cultural calendar of Grand Rapids. Their extensive experience in orchestrating captivating light displays and performances around the globe ensures that every detail of this year's event will wow the audience.

After walking through the outdoor lights, attendees can take a moment to experience the University of Michigan Health-West Christmas Holiday Traditions exhibition inside, showcasing cultural displays and performances that highlight global holiday customs.
