Celebrate the Holidays at Los Angeles Union Station
Los Angeles Union Station is gearing up to celebrate the holiday season with its much-anticipated 11th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on November 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. This year, the iconic venue will welcome mid-century pop culture expert Charles Phoenix as the host of this free, family-friendly event, promising a magical evening for Angelenos.
A Festive Evening Awaits
The festivities will take place within the historic confines of Union Station's Ticket Concourse, where a festive atmosphere will reign. Families can expect live entertainment, a chance to take memorable photographs with Santa, and a delightful cookie counter to satisfy sweet cravings. The countdown to light the station’s magnificent 30-foot holiday tree will be led by Santa and his cheerful elves, making it a must-see event.
Kicking off the celebration will be the talented mariachi band, Mariachi Ausente, known for its vibrant performances and musical charm. Following them, the event will feature a special performance by the 10-piece jazz ensemble, Lizzy and the Triggermen. Music, laughter, and holiday cheer will resonate through the air, all orchestrated under Metro Art’s imaginative programming.
A Cultural Gathering Place
Jeff Brown, Vice President and General Manager at Los Angeles Union Station, expressed pride in the ongoing tradition: “For 11 years, the Union Station Tree Lighting Ceremony has brought Angelenos together to celebrate the holidays. Through our partnership with Metro, we’re proud to strengthen Union Station's role as a cultural landmark.” The event is more than a mere holiday celebration; it represents the vibrancy of Los Angeles and its community spirit.
Holiday Décor and Experiences
Attendees can also explore the impressive holiday décor throughout the station. From the illuminated palm trees and the signature wreath adorning the iconic Clock Tower to the oversized ornaments and lights, the station will be transformed into a winter wonderland. Additional holiday trees will be set up in the Waiting Room and South Patio, enhancing the seasonal vibe. To honor different traditions, a menorah will also be displayed, celebrating Hanukkah alongside the festive decorations.
All decorations will be on display from November 19 through December 27, inviting visitors to enjoy the seasonal beauty daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. During weekdays, the sound of the Salvation Army Band will fill the air, encouraging commuters and tourists alike to engage with the holiday spirit.
For those interested in learning more about the architectural marvel that is Union Station, the Los Angeles Conservancy will host 90-minute evening tours highlighting the station's historic features and its festive décor.
