Delska Unveils Eco-Friendly 10MW Data Center in Latvia with Tier III Certification
Delska, a leading data center operator in Northern Europe, has reached a significant milestone with the announcement of its new facility, EU North Riga LV DC1, which has been awarded the prestigious Uptime Institute Tier III Design Certification. This accolade comes as the company prepares for the center's launch later this year, marking it as a landmark development in sustainable technology within the Baltic region.
A Commitment to Resilience and Efficiency
The Tier III Design certification ensures that the new facility meets stringent criteria for infrastructure robustness, reliability, and safety, achieving an impressive uptime of 99.982%. Andris Gailitis, the CEO of Delska, emphasized the importance of this certification, stating, "In a world where even a few seconds of downtime can cost thousands, Tier III ensures our infrastructure stays online—even during planned maintenance."
Tackling Energy Needs in Europe
As Europe grapples with power shortages affecting major cities, Delska's new 10 MW site offers a robust solution, providing up to 250 kW capacity per rack. This facility is specifically designed to host next-generation workloads, which prominently include artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC). With a modular layout of 6,000 m², it allows for scalability—capable of expanding the campus to an impressive 30 MW.
Pioneering Sustainability Initiatives
Sustainability is at the forefront of Delska's design philosophy. The data center will operate entirely on 100% wind energy, with its backup sources utilizing Neste MY renewable diesel. The design aims for a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) as low as 1.3, incorporating advanced cooling systems such as hot-aisle containment, a Weiss Technik wall cooling solution, and Trane Turbocor-based chillers. Notably, it supports both traditional air cooling and innovative high-density direct-to-chip cooling technologies. Moreover, Delska is striving for LEED certification, a hallmark of excellence in green building practices that fewer than 15 buildings in Latvia have achieved to date.
Upon reaching the completion stage, the facility will undergo Tier III Facility certification to ensure that its functionality aligns with the rigorous standards established in its design certification.
Expanding the Baltic Network
This new center represents Delska's third Tier III-certified data center and adds to its total of six facilities, which also includes two Tier III Facility-certified sites in Lithuania. Plans are underway to further enhance their network in the Baltic region, with additional data centers anticipated both in Lithuania and nearby areas.
About Delska
Delska stands as one of the largest data center providers in the Baltics, boasting a robust presence with over 26 years of experience in IT and network infrastructure. The company operates fully green Tier III and PCI-DSS certified facilities, including locations in Riga and Vilnius with a combined capacity of 19 MW.
