Topy Industries Group Initiates New Recycling Efforts for Discarded Rubber Crawlers

Topy Industries Group's Innovative Recycling Initiative

Topy Industries Co., Ltd., along with its consolidated subsidiary Topy Jitsugyo Co., Ltd. and Toujitsu Co., Ltd., has embarked on a pioneering initiative focusing on the recycling of discarded rubber crawlers that are often used in construction machinery. This initiative aims to address the challenges associated with the previous methods of disposal, which predominantly involved landfilling due to the strong integration of metal cores and rubber, making separation and recycling quite difficult.

Historically, the rubber crawlers posed significant challenges for the steel scrap industry. Concerns about the impact of rubber-derived components and the smoke produced during burning have hindered efficient electric furnace operations. Furthermore, the difficulty in separating rubber from metal led to these materials being deemed as “difficult-to-process waste” within the recycling sector.

The approach taken by the Topy Industries Group leverages their extensive experience in electric steelmaking technology. They aim to control the effects rubber has on steel production while effectively utilizing its thermal energy. This dual approach allows for the metal cores to be transformed into high-quality steel products, effectively giving new life to materials previously viewed as waste.

To complement this innovative recycling process, Topy Jitsugyo and Toujitsu will utilize the Group’s logistics network to establish a comprehensive system that manages everything from collection to distribution. This will cater to construction machinery owners and rental companies, providing them with a transparent, compliant, and efficient recycling flow.

Topy Industries Group is committed to reducing waste in the construction machinery industry and contributing to carbon neutrality through this initiative. By enhancing the circular use of steel, the Group is dedicated to developing technologies and reinforcing its systems to realize a sustainable society.
