Japan Philharmonic’s 2025/2026 Pre-70th Anniversary Season
As we approach a monumental milestone, the Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (JPSO), based in Suginami, Tokyo, will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026. The organization, led by Chairman Toshikuni Hirai, has announced its 2025-2026 season as the Pre-70th Anniversary Season, with subscription tickets available starting May 28. This season marks the third year of Principal Conductor Kachu Wong, who continues to elevate the ensemble with performances of notable compositions by Mahler, Shostakovich, and contemporary Japanese composers, including Ikufube and Akutagawa.
The lineup features an exciting array of renowned guest conductors and soloists. Honorary Conductor Kenichiro Kobayashi leads JPSO’s talented soloists, while Junichi Hirokami challenges the orchestra with daring programs that push artistic boundaries. Kazuki Yamada, who gained acclaim for his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic, returns to blend the unique sounds of Japan and France. The seasoned Tatsuya Shimono will lead traditional works by Sibelius, while Yuji Kamiji and young conductors like Daichi Deguchi and Wilfried Kazuki Hedenborg create fresh, adventurous sounds.
