The Magokoro Project: Transforming Unused Workwear into Global Aid for Cambodia

The Magokoro Project: A Sustainable Solution for Unused Workwear

In October 2025, Japan Reuse System Co., Ltd., led by CEO Masato Yamada, introduced the Magokoro Project, aimed at harnessing unused corporate workwear to support sustainability initiatives worldwide, particularly for Cambodia's environment. This initiative partners with Cambodia’s Ministry of Environment to donate workwear to forest rangers safeguarding the nation’s forests.

What is the Used Clothing Vaccine?

The Used Clothing Vaccine is a unique service that allows households to conveniently donate unnecessary clothing items for a fee, which contributes directly to social causes. Since its 2010 launch, the initiative has repurposed over 65 million clothing items, providing polio vaccines for over 9 million underprivileged children globally, effectively saving lives in developing countries (as of August 31, 2024).

Launch of the Magokoro Project for Corporations

Beginning in October 2022, the Magokoro Project was designed specifically for corporations looking to support SDGs through a structured plan that includes evidence such as SDGs Supporter certification. With this offering, businesses can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability through tangible actions.

How the Workwear Magokoro Project Works

Previously, the collected workwear through the Used Clothing Vaccine Magokoro Project was resold at our Cambodian center or tourist jungle shops, aiding in maintaining safety for visitors. As demand surged for a solution that not only re-sold but also contributed to societal benefits, we responded with a specific SDGs solution plan tailored for corporate workwear.

Instead of merely discarding unused work attires, our project connects this recycling directly to meaningful causes, such as donating to forest rangers, utilizing uniforms in vocational training schools, and supporting employment for individuals with disabilities. This sustainable package opens a new avenue for corporations to engage in environmental and social support initiatives.

Benefits for Participating Businesses

By participating in the Magokoro Project, businesses can:
1. Obtain certification as an SDGs Supporter.
2. Have their company listed on the SDGs Supporter webpage.
3. Showcase their commitment to sustainability to customers and stakeholders.
4. Enhance employee awareness and understanding of SDGs through internal activities.
5. Deduct total package costs as advertising expenses.

Additionally, depending on the plan chosen, we can provide thank-you letters from the Cambodian government in recognition of the contributions made.

What Can Be Sent?

The program offers three tiers: Package A (3 million yen), Package B (5 million yen), and Package C (10 million yen). Businesses are encouraged to consider this as a fresh option to repurpose unused workwear instead of disposing or storing it away.

Each organization can select a plan that suits their size and budget, and for those with smaller amounts to donate, single kit plans are also available. We encourage companies to reach out with any inquiries to explore how they can contribute to this impactful initiative.
