The Amorepacific Museum of Art (APMA) in Seoul is set to host a groundbreaking exhibition titled Sol LeWitt: Open Structure, which will run from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. This exhibition marks a significant milestone as it is the first extensive presentation of the renowned conceptual artist's work in Korea. LeWitt, a prominent figure in the realm of Conceptual art, is celebrated for his innovative ideas surrounding the transformation of concepts into various forms.

With over 45 pieces on display, the exhibition provides a comprehensive look at LeWitt's artistic evolution, featuring wall drawings, structures, paintings, photographs, prints, and archival materials. The collection demonstrates how a singular idea can manifest in diverse artistic expressions, an essential facet of LeWitt's philosophy. The exhibition includes 13 wall drawings, specifically created based on LeWitt’s own written directives, showcasing his unique process and the importance placed on the idea behind the artwork.

Collaborative Creation

One of the exhibition's highlights is the collaborative effort where 23 art students, known as APMA MAKERS, have worked in tandem with trained representatives from The LeWitt Estate to realize the wall drawings. This collaborative venture echoes LeWitt’s methodology, where the role of the artist is intertwined with that of the participants who bring the conceptual work to fruition.

The result is not just a showcase of art but a living demonstration of the execution and recreation of LeWitt's original thoughts. The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday with opening hours from 10 AM to 6 PM, and will remain closed on Mondays as well as during specific holidays including September 24–26, 2026, January 1, and February 6–8, 2027.
