The Captivating Debut of JAPAN SUI COLLECTION at Paris Captures European Leaders' Attention

A Captivating Showcase: JAPAN SUI COLLECTION a Paris

From March 3 to 5, 2026, the renowned Hotel Le Royal Monceau in Paris hosted the inaugural European showcase of the "JAPAN SUI COLLECTION". This prestigious event, organized by Japan's Cabinet Office, drew approximately 200 prominent figures from the European business, cultural, and creative sectors. The exhibition served as a celebration of Japan's remarkable craftsmanship, culinary artistry, and deep-rooted heritage, encapsulated by the theme "Sui," which represents an aesthetic that symbolizes refined elegance, understated beauty, and spiritual clarity.

Celebrating Japanese Craftsmanship

Numerous masterpieces were on display including the exquisite Lacquer Art Box by Kazumi Murose, which left attendees in awe. The traditional lacquering techniques displayed by the Sendai Tansu Cabinet were also a highlight, showcasing Japan's rich crafting traditions.

One of the most innovative concepts revealed during the event was the application of traditional lacquer to genuine leather, a unique idea that is making its debut in the European market. This integration of two mediums was complemented by heartfelt narratives shared by the artists themselves, revealing the passion ignited by their creations. Such personal engagement forged a connection that transcended visual impressions, resonating more deeply than any photograph or brochure could convey.

A Culinary Journey with Chef Nobu Matsuhisa

On March 4, a special dining experience was curated at the hotel’s restaurant, DINING MATSUHISA PARIS, supervised by the world-famous chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The event featured hand-selected premium ingredients from Japan, including Kito yuzu citrus, sun-dried hoshigaki persimmons, sansho pepper, wagyu beef, and organic rice. These gourmet elements were artistically presented on unique mame-zara (miniature plates), delivering a visual feast that was equally delightful to the palate. The menu seamlessly blended traditional Japanese flavors with contemporary presentation.

Additionally, guests enjoyed a carefully curated pairing of 16 varieties of sake, many of which were making their debut in Europe, alongside artisanal cheeses. A dedicated matcha ceremony further enriched the experience, with many attendees remarking that it transported them to the heart of Kyoto, reflecting the tea’s growing popularity in Paris.

Traditional Arts Come Alive

The event featured a dynamic fashion show inspired by traditional Japanese attire, alongside a Nihon Buyo performance, traditional Japanese dance, produced by the talented JUNKO KOSHINO. The fusion of heritage and contemporary expression captivated the audience, encapsulating the innovative spirit behind the collection.

Bridging Heritage and Modern Life

During the reception, many guests expressed interest in acquiring the lacquered Sendai Tansu cabinet pieces as they sought ways to incorporate the displayed works into their modern lifestyles. Works showcased at the event are now available through the official website, indicating the commitment of the Cabinet Office to expand global awareness and appreciation for Japan’s traditional culture and regional cuisine.

Moving forward, Japan’s aim is not only to preserve its cultural heritage but also to reinterpret age-old techniques and aesthetics, creating renewed relevance and value for a global audience.
