Pixel Co., Ltd., based in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, has officially begun accepting reservations for their upcoming Nintendo Switch title, Horgihugh, scheduled for release on October 22, 2026. This marks a significant event as it also celebrates the company's 10th anniversary.

What is Horgihugh?

Horgihugh is a shooting game that features a charming retro pixel art style, which hides deeper themes and sophisticated level designs. Originally released for PC and iOS in 2018, the game received a new version, Horgihugh with Friends, in 2021, adding various elements to attract a broader audience. Now, it’s returning to its roots with a fresh new title, simply called Horgihugh.

The characters, designed by artist KOU, are inspired by a mix between husky and corgi dogs, reflecting the game's whimsical nature while addressing serious narratives. The protagonist, Hugh, draws inspiration from a real dog named Hyuga, who lived in the affected region of Fukushima following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Other characters are modeled after real animals as well, emphasizing the connection to real-life events. The game includes a city restoration mode, with the name Eterday being an anagram of Iitate, a town that faced significant challenges after the disaster.

Engaging Storyline

Set in a parallel Earth, the story revolves around various races living with their unique values and beliefs. However, a tragic murder in a small town leads to a widespread war, instigating turmoil across nations. Dr. Howard, a character troubled by the ongoing conflict, discovers a mysterious glowing stone believed to be from outer space. He works on developing a device to neutralize weapons and promote peaceful resolutions. Tragically, the war concludes two years before Dr. Howard's invention is completed.

Six years post-war, an invasion from aliens known as the Gozarians complicates matters as they attack Earth, drawn by signals emitted from the discarded glowing stones. The remnants of the war treaty left many nations unprepared and ill-equipped against this newfound threat.

Two pilots who previously fled war decide to step in as heroes despite going into hiding all these years. Hugh and Figaro, armed with their outdated fighter planes, are the last hope against the invading Gozarians. With their personal stakes at hand, they choose to fight to protect the ones they love.
