NFL Alumni Association Teams Up with Victor Cruz for Hispanic Heritage Month
The National Football League Alumni Association (NFL Alumni) is proud to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month by collaborating with former All-Pro wide receiver Victor Cruz. This initiative, aiming at raising health awareness within the Hispanic community, features the expanded On 3 Weight. Health. Hike! program facilitated by Cruz, who serves as the ambassador for this project.
With a focus on promoting the significance of tradition, family, and health, the initiative addresses the urgent issue of excess weight which significantly affects many adults in the U.S. Notably, the statistics reveal that over 40% of American adults are living with excess weight, which can lead to critical health issues such as heart disease and diabetes. For the Hispanic community, this percentage escalates to approximately 45%.
Victor Cruz, who takes pride in his Puerto Rican roots, passionately connects to this cause. He has witnessed the impact of health issues within his family, as he shares the story of his grandmother, who lost her life to diabetes, while his mother and sister continue to navigate similar challenges. Cruz stated, "Obesity is a disease, and it’s something that cannot be tackled alone. It’s never too late to make necessary changes for your health and for your family's well-being."
The campaign seeks to elevate awareness about better health practices, encouraging individuals who are struggling with weight issues to seek guidance from healthcare professionals who understand their background and lifestyle. As part of this initiative, the New York Giants organization plans to contribute by sharing themed videos across their social media platforms and broadcast channels in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month.
Former NFL players have also rallied to support this cause; over 30 have shared their personal stories underscoring the importance of attaining a healthy weight. Esteemed figures such as Eric Dickerson, Deuce McAllister, Jeff Saturday, and Damien Woody have added their voices to this vital campaign.
Brad Edwards, a former All-Pro safety and the current CEO of NFL Alumni, expressed the organization's commitment by stating, "Our core mission is to care for communities, kids, and our members. We take immense pride in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, which embodies health, hope, and happiness within the Hispanic culture and beyond."
This partnership with Victor Cruz and the focus on Hispanic Heritage Month exemplifies NFL Alumni's dedication to encouraging healthier lifestyles and supporting community well-being aligned with the core cultural values celebrated during this month.
