Workato Launches China Data Center
Workato Inc., a leading provider of an agent-based orchestration platform based in Palo Alto, California, has announced the official launch of its data center in China through its Japanese subsidiary, Workato Japan, located in Tokyo. This data center marks a significant milestone in its efforts to expand within the Greater China region and underscores the company’s commitment to providing a consistent automation platform for multinational corporations operating globally.
China stands as one of the world's most complex and vital markets. With the inauguration of the new data center, global enterprises can now operate Workato natively within China, ensuring that all data remains within national borders. This decision not only meets compliance requirements but allows companies to make use of a unified automation framework that employs the same recipes, connectors, and accelerators across all their locations, whether they be in China, Japan, the United States, or Europe.
Key Features of the China Data Center
1.
Local Hosting by AWS China (Ningxia): All customer data, including recipes, connection information, shared assets, and job logs, will only be processed and stored within China's borders. This approach guarantees a fully domestic operation without crossing international borders.
2.
Enterprise-Grade Security and Compliance: The data center delivers high-availability architecture and security standards on par with the global network through a completely isolated regional deployment. Key functionalities include:
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
- SAML SSO and SCIM for provisioning automation
- Enterprise Key Management
- External Secret Management
- Data masking and configurable data retention policies
3.
Global Platform and Experience: Customers located in China can access the full specification of the Workato Orchestrate platform, including AHQ, Environments, On-Prem Agent, and Connector SDK. This ensures that new features will be available to Chinese environments concurrently with global releases, providing a consistent user experience.
4.
Regulatory Compliance: The data center has obtained the necessary certifications, including the Internet Service Provider Registration (ICP Filing: 京ICP備2026009801号) mandated by the Chinese government. It is also pursuing assessment for MLPS (Multi-level Protection Scheme) Level 3 for enterprise systems critical to business operations in China.
Launch Customers
The China data center has officially begun operations alongside several high-profile customers, including:
- - A global leading cosmetics manufacturer that has launched an independent Virtual Private Workato (VPW) instance.
- - Reltio, which utilizes Workato as an embedded system, providing Reltio Integration Hub (RIH) to end customers.
Additionally, a significant global hospitality group is set to join the platform later this year, indicating continued expansion.
Significance for Japanese Companies with Local Corporations in China
The launch of the China data center is highly significant for Japanese multinational corporations operating with local offices in China. It enables seamless collaboration between headquarters in Japan, local branches in China, and global operations using the same Workato platform. This alignment allows for unified management of automation strategies across the organization, adhering to local regulations such as data localization requirements.
For existing customers already utilizing the Japanese data center, the transition to automating operations in China can be accomplished without changes to the user interface, recipes, or connector experiences. Allan Teng, CEO of Workato Japan, stated, "China is one of the most strategically important markets worldwide. With the launch of the China data center, every enterprise operating in the Greater China region can fully leverage Workato’s integration and automation platform while ensuring compliance. This unified automation base empowers our customers in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, to build more competitive businesses."
Future Developments
The APJ team at Workato is actively leading expansion efforts within the Greater China region and has garnered strong traction early on, marking the beginning of their growing presence in one of the world’s crucial markets. The company will continue to enhance features tailored to meet the needs of the Chinese market and further bolster customer support.
