A Unique Experience for Girl Students in Taiwan

In August 2025, Waseda University Academic Solutions held an innovative program in Taiwan tailored specifically for high school and junior high school girls interested in the fields of artificial intelligence and programming. The initiative aimed to provide these young women with global perspectives and broaden their future career options through immersive learning experiences.

The program kicked off with various activities, including workshops, company visits, and cultural experiences at the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Participants were immersed in a foreign environment while engaging in essential learning experiences unavailable in a conventional classroom setting.

Highlights of the Program

Learning and Interaction at a Local University

The participants attended special lectures conducted by professors from the Department of Information Management and the Department of Computer Engineering at National Taiwan University. They delved into workshops focusing on AI prompt engineering and learned the basics of tool production using Unity. Communication in English with local university students acting as teaching assistants (TAs) was a significant part of their challenge. These TAs also spent lunch with the participants, fostering camaraderie and providing insights about campus life and culinary culture.

Company Visits

The girls had the opportunity to visit prominent organizations, including the Institute for Information Industry, Cycraft—a cybersecurity firm, and KKday, Asia's largest online travel booking platform. During these visits, the participants heard diverse presentations from female engineers, discussing their roles and career paths, thereby gaining inspiration and insight into the possibilities within the tech industry.

Cultural Experiences

Participants also enjoyed cultural experiences, such as exploring vibrant night markets and taking part in pineapple cake-making workshops. These activities encouraged teamwork and interaction across different school years, contributing to a joyful and safe experience.

One high school senior shared, "Though I was anxious about my first trip abroad, the company visits and training in Taiwan provided me with valuable lessons and inspiration unattainable in Japan. The lectures at local IT companies were especially beneficial while contemplating my future goals and career direction. The interactions with the TAs and fellow participants enriched my experience and expanded my horizons!"

A junior high student remarked, "Everywhere I went, people were kind and supportive. The company visits exposed me to numerous new things, and the university lectures were fascinating and practical. My interest in IT grew significantly, and the food was delicious! I am grateful for the rich experiences during these fulfilling six days!"
