Albemarle Corporation's Leadership Transition
Albemarle Corporation, a prominent player in the global chemical industry known for its commitment to essential elements necessary for mobility, energy, connectivity, and health, has announced a significant leadership change. Ander Krupa has been promoted to the pivotal role of
executive vice president, general counsel, corporate secretary, and chief compliance officer. This move follows the tragic passing of the former general counsel, Stacy Grant, in April 2025.
In making the announcement, Kent Masters, the Chairman and CEO of Albemarle, emphasized Krupa’s strong leadership skills and considerable legal expertise. This promotion is seen as a strategic decision to enhance Albemarle's legal, ethics, risk, and compliance functions. Masters stated, “Ander's demonstrated leadership, broad legal expertise, and deep institutional knowledge positions him well to assume strategic oversight.” This reflects the company's ongoing commitment to integrity, accountability, and ethical governance, which are cornerstone values at Albemarle.
Krupa’s Background and Experience
Ander Krupa joined Albemarle in May 2017 as vice president, deputy general counsel, and assistant corporate secretary. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in supporting the company’s global business units, engaging in commercial activities, as well as overseeing mergers and acquisitions. With over 15 years of experience in the manufacturing sector, Krupa has acquired a wealth of knowledge and a diverse skill set that spans across various domains of Albemarle’s operations.
Before advancing to his current position, Krupa served as assistant general counsel for governance and securities at BWX Technologies, Inc. and The Babcock & Wilcox Company. His experience also includes significant time spent at the esteemed international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP, where he specialized in corporate law and securities.
Krupa holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Georgia and earned his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law. He will continue to operate from the company's headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina, and will report directly to Masters as part of Albemarle's executive leadership team.
Enhancing Corporate Governance
The appointment of Krupa is a pivotal step in ensuring the continuity of robust governance practices at Albemarle. With an increasing focus on compliance and ethical conduct in the business landscape, Krupa’s leadership is expected to contribute significantly to establishing a strong governance framework that resonates with stakeholders. His past roles and responsibilities have equipped him with insights into the core operations of the company, allowing him to effectively navigate the complexities of corporate governance.
The internal promotion underscores a dedication to cultivating leaders from within the organization, a strategy that aims to reinforce corporate culture while also demonstrating confidence in Krupa’s capabilities to lead the legal and compliance departments during a critical time of transition for the company.
