Aika Nagano's Solo Exhibition 'Awai ni Furu'
Starting June 21, 2025, LURF GALLERY will host a compelling solo exhibition titled 'Awai ni Furu' by the talented artist Aika Nagano. This exhibition will take place on the first floor of the gallery and will run until July 27, 2025. Nagano, who has been influenced by traditional Japanese painting, has mastered the subtle art of capturing 'ma' or the space in between, transforming it into a depiction of light within her work. Her paintings evoke a sense of serenity and quiet reflection, where emotions and the passage of time are gently intertwined.
The exhibition invites visitors to explore the 'awai'—the delicate space between objects, people, time, and memory. Through her work, Nagano aims to shed light on the often-overlooked beauty found in daily life, subtle changes in light, and the sensation of overlapping time. Attendees will be able to immerse themselves in the lingering resonance that emerges between light and shadow, form and emptiness.

Artist Statement
Nagano’s statement reflects her exploration of the boundaries between the inner and outer worlds, where a quiet presence serves as a reminder of the subtle currents that connect us all. The winds that flow between the seen and unseen, the nuances of moisture and light, combined with the scents that shift with the seasons—all of these elements stir responses within our bodies and senses.
In her works, Nagano aims to express the ambiguous existence that resonates in these moments, turning what has been seen as 'empty space' into a canvas for light, where moments of calmness and nostalgia permeate the experience. The not only depicted subjects but also the seemingly invisible spaces surrounding them become integral parts of the artwork, inviting viewers to consider the relationship between the painted forms and the spaces that dwell in silence around them.
