Elecnor Enhances Renewable Energy Infrastructure in Ireland with New Projects
Elecnor Expands Renewable Energy Presence in Ireland
Elecnor, a Spanish multinational company, is advancing its presence in the Irish energy sector through two new strategic projects for Statkraft, Europe’s largest renewable energy producer. Following the recent contract awards, Elecnor will operate a total of four synchronous condensers (SynCons) in Ireland, significantly enhancing its role in the grid stability market.
Commitment to Sustainable Development
These new contracts are part of a broader initiative aimed at decreasing reliance on fossil fuels and facilitating the integration of renewable energy sources into the electricity grid. The projects are aligned with the Low Carbon Inertia Services (LCIS) program, led by Transmission System Operators EirGrid and SONI, emphasizing a future-focused approach towards energy sustainability.
In Coolkeeragh, Northern Ireland, Elecnor will implement a synchronous condenser alongside a 275/15 kV substation, while in Quarry Lane, Republic of Ireland, another SynCon will be established next to a 220/15 kV substation. Both facilities are designed to provide vital inertia, reactive power, and short-circuit power compensation, making them essential for achieving the climate goals set for 2030 across the region.
Technological Innovation and Reliability
To execute these projects, Elecnor will maintain its consortium structure, which previously proved successful. Elecnor Servicios y Proyectos will lead operations in collaboration with its subsidiaries, including IQA Operations Group in the UK and ESYP in Ireland. This consortium approach will ensure that all technical aspects are finely tuned to the specific requirements of each site, thereby enhancing operational efficiency.
Elecnor is recognized for its capacity to manage the entire process from design to construction and commissioning under a complete EPC model. This capability is particularly important in the realm of grid stability, where reliability and adherence to deadlines are critical factors.
A Leader in Renewable Infrastructure
With these contract awards, Elecnor solidifies its international standing in deploying synchronous condensers. The company has established a notable presence in markets not only in the UK and Ireland but also extending to Australia, Brazil, and Spain. Elecnor’s efforts contribute significantly to a diversified international portfolio, reinforcing its strategic ambition to lead in the renewable energy sector.
Founded on a foundation of over 40 years of experience, Elecnor operates in more than 40 countries and employs a skilled workforce of over 24,000 professionals. The firm’s ongoing expansion, particularly in renewable energy projects, showcases its commitment to sustainable practices and innovative technological solutions aimed at meeting global energy demands.
As Elecnor continues to collaborate with Statkraft on these new ventures, the synergy between the two organizations is expected to yield substantial benefits in renewable energy integration and grid stabilization efforts in Ireland, setting a higher standard within the European energy market.
By prioritizing sustainability, Elecnor not only enhances its corporate profile but also plays a crucial role in shaping Ireland's energy future towards a low-carbon economy.
