Dive into the 'Zannen' Creatures Exhibition at Sunshine Aquarium
The Sunshine Aquarium, located in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, is hosting its third collaborative exhibition titled "Zannen Animals Exhibition 3" with Takahashi Shoten. The exhibition, which focuses on fascinating creatures that, despite their shortcomings, capture our hearts, will run until November 23rd. This event celebrates the 10th anniversary of the popular book series "Zannen na Ikimono Jiten" (The Dictionary of Disappointing Creatures), which has sold over 5.5 million copies since its debut.
This year marks a decade since the first volume was published, and to celebrate, the aquarium is inviting visitors to take part in the "Zannen Animals National Election" during the exhibition. From April 29 to August 23, attendees can vote for their favorite "zannen" creature among 23 species displayed in the exhibition. The top 10 creatures will be announced on September 18, and everyone who votes and purchases a book from the series can claim a special sticker while supplies last.
A Unique Experience Awaits
The exhibition is segmented into seven distinct "zannen" areas, each showcasing some of the quirkiest creatures from the past and a few exclusive ones created just for the event. These categories include:
- - Disappointing quirks
- - Zannen lifestyles
- - Mistakes when under pressure
- - Disappointing details upon closer inspection
- - Strong yet zannen
- - Underwhelming abilities
- - Sunshine Aquarium’s original zannen animals
Visitors can not only observe the creatures but also engage with them through various sensory experiences, such as the much-anticipated
