New Course Launch: 'Information I Preparation Course'
The Terakoya Group has just announced the initiation of a brand-new course designed specifically for high school students preparing for the university entrance exams. Beginning on September 27, this course, named the "Information I Preparation Course," will run until December 20, encompassing a total of 13 sessions lasting 90 minutes each.
As part of Japan's education reforms, the Information I subject has been added to the common university entrance examination starting in 2025, becoming a compulsory subject for over 96% of national universities. This strategic move emphasizes the importance of information literacy in today’s digital age, particularly for future generations.
The course aims not just at helping students memorize facts but rather focuses on developing practical skills with digital tools such as Google Sheets, Gemini, and Canva. Each session combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice, ensuring that students can apply what they learn in real-world situations, thereby enhancing their problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills—key components of the Information I subject.
Course Details
- - Course Name: Information I Preparation Course
- - Duration: September 27, 2025 - December 20, 2025 (Every Saturday)

- - Target Audience: High school students (grades 1 to 3)

This course is particularly crucial as the Information I subject covers a wide range of topics, including problem-solving in information society, communication and information design, computer programming, and the utilization of data in communication networks. With the curriculum being expansive and lacking substantive past exams, students currently face challenges in efficient study methods. The previous examinations also included practical content that required a deeper understanding of subjects, increasing the stakes for applicants.
Unfortunately, many schools are struggling with a shortage of information technology educators, limiting students' chances to explore and strengthen their practical abilities in a systematic manner. Hence, the Terakoya Group’s offering aims to fill this gap and give students the tools they need for success.
