Shibuya well-being Lab. Opens Its Doors in Shibuya, Tokyo
On September 11, the Shibuya well-being Lab., a groundbreaking initiative by SnoezeLab, opened in the bustling district of Shibuya, Tokyo. Located on the first floor of the Shibuya Welfare Hall, this innovative lab aims to provide a transformative experience focused on the well-being of working adults, offering a unique blend of relaxation and creativity through sensory engagement.
What is Shibuya well-being Lab.?
The Shibuya well-being Lab. was conceived as a space where individuals can reset their senses and co-create new values in our fast-paced society. It is designed to cater specifically to the needs of adults, particularly those overwhelmed by modern work stress. Drawing inspiration from the Dutch tradition of Snoezelen—a method of providing multisensory environments for individuals with profound intellectual disabilities—the lab extends this concept to promote well-being for all working individuals.
This engaging space is not merely a finished product but rather a collaborative laboratory where visitors can participate in dialogue and experimentation, helping to shape the future of well-being practices.
Four Unique Experiences Offered
At the Shibuya well-being Lab., four distinct areas of experience are available:
1.
Sunaba (Play Area): A space to move and reconnect with one’s senses, allowing adults to leave behind the rigidity of conventional social norms and engage freely as children do.
2.
Toiba (Inquiry Area): In an age where AI provides swift answers, this space encourages participants to ask their own questions and develop deeper thoughts.
3.
Ukaba (Rest Area): A relaxation sanctuary designed for participants to pause their thoughts and sensations, promoting mental and physical recovery.
(Experience the Snoezelen Room: An immersive digital multisensory environment.)
4.
Kotoba (Creation Area): Here, inspiration gained from multisensory experiences is transformed into language, creating new value through expression.
Well-being Seminars and Programs
The lab offers various well-being programs, catering to both individuals and corporations. For corporate entities, there’s an exciting opportunity for co-creation through the YORIBA platform, designed to implement and validate well-being initiatives for employees. If you're a corporate HR professional, you can participate in monthly co-creation tours starting in October.
Additionally, the lab hosts well-being seminars specifically for business professionals, focusing on approaches to enhancing well-being through sensory engagement. Interested parties are encouraged to register and experience the multisensory environment firsthand during these events.
The lab is also open to individuals looking to refresh their minds during busy workdays, with semi-regular openings during public events.
