LG Electronics Highlights the Pygmy Owl in New York City Campaign to Raise Endangered Species Awareness

LG Electronics has recently unveiled the cactus ferruginous pygmy owl as part of its groundbreaking 3D anamorphic billboard series located in the bustling area of Times Square, New York City. This initiative, part of LG's ongoing Endangered Species Series, aims to elevate awareness of vulnerable wildlife while promoting environmental stewardship among communities. The campaign, which initiated in 2024, sees a collaboration between LG and the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) to both educate and engage K-12 students in issues pertaining to biodiversity and climate action.

The cactus ferruginous pygmy owl, listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, captures attention due to its diminutive stature, measuring just six inches tall, similar to the size of a soda can. Native to southern Arizona, Texas, and parts of Mexico, this tiny, fierce creature faces escalating threats from habitat destruction, invasive species, and the burgeoning challenges posed by climate change. The owl's introduction as the latest feature in the campaign was made possible through a community-driven selection process, where votes from the public effectively highlighted the importance and need for recognition of lesser-known species.

LG's Endangered Species Series is also interconnected with NBC's "The Americas," a nature documentary showcasing the rich biodiversity of North and South America, which includes features on several endangered species besides the pygmy owl. The series aims to create an emotional connection to wildlife, encouraging viewers to take an active role in conservation efforts. Alongside this campaign, LG has committed to providing free educational resources designed for students, educators, and families, promoting awareness of the ecological roles and needs of at-risk species like the pygmy owl.

In support of this initiative, LG has engaged with the community and promised a significant contribution of $170,000 to the NWF, aimed at empowering future conservation leaders and enhancing wildlife protection efforts. This partnership extends to various educational programs within the EcoSchools U.S. framework, focusing on practical actions that students can take to protect the environment. Enhancing the public’s understanding of species like the cactus ferruginous pygmy owl is the goal of various interactive content created by NWF, which includes quizzes and detailed insights into the species’ behavior and ecological significance.

Jeannie Lee, the director of Corporate Marketing at LG Electronics USA, stated, "At LG, we believe 'Life's Good' means creating a better, more sustainable future for all. Through our partnership with The National Wildlife Federation and NBC's The Americas, we're using the power of immersive storytelling to inspire communities to nurture and protect our shared natural world."

As part of this ongoing campaign, LG is dedicated to unveiling additional endangered species throughout 2025, continuing to create a dialogue around conservation that resonates with diverse audiences across the nation. Now available for streaming on Peacock, viewers can immerse themselves in the beauty of North and South America's wildlife as it aims to inspire action for wildlife conservation through compelling storytelling.
