Superdrug Partners with Hanshow to Enhance Digital Shelf Solutions in Health and Beauty Retailing

Superdrug Partners with Hanshow for Digital Shelf Solutions

In a move set to reshape the shopping experience for customers across the UK and Ireland, Superdrug has engaged Hanshow, a global leader in digital retail solutions, to spearhead its digital shelf initiatives. This partnership aims to enhance operational efficiencies and modernize the customer experience within Superdrug's extensive network of health and beauty retailers.

Superdrug, recognized as one of the top retailers in the health and beauty sector, is committing to significant advancements in its stores by leveraging Hanshow’s Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs) as the standard for its shelves. The integration of this digital technology will not only ensure pricing accuracy and rapid promotional changes but also maintain consistency across its branches, directly impacting customer trust and profit margins.

Josh Walkling, Sales Operations Director at Superdrug, expressed the company’s vision for a scalable and adaptable operational model that prioritizes customer service while simplifying internal processes. He states, “The digitization at the shelf edge enhances execution speed and accuracy in our stores, allowing a more agile and reliable operation.” This commitment reflects a growing recognition that technology is a critical driver for operational success in a competitive market.

As of the end of 2025, Superdrug has already outfitted 51 stores with Hanshow’s ESLs, with plans to implement the solution in an additional 90 locations throughout 2026, coinciding with new store openings. Upon completion, this initiative will encompass over 1.7 million ESLs across the region, representing a significant investment in digital retail infrastructure.

The ESL technology facilitates a centralized management layer that provides real-time data, enabling not only improved execution in stores but also a more efficient online fulfillment process. This level of digital integration is essential for building a resilient, scalable retail operation that can adapt to consumer needs and market demands.

Andrew Cobb, IT Director at Superdrug, further articulated the benefits of working with Hanshow, noting that the establishment of a digital framework at the shelf edge is a pivotal part of the retailer’s technology roadmap. “Partnering with Hanshow strengthens the infrastructure that underpins our connectivity-based services, while providing greater flexibility and seamless, integrated in-store experiences.”

Liangyan Li, SVP and Head of Global Sales at Hanshow, commented on this substantial partnership, saying, “Superdrug’s decision reflects its long-term commitment to developing a robust store infrastructure. By creating a digital foundation at the shelf edge, retailers can enhance operational precision today while ensuring flexibility for future innovations.”

This collaboration signifies a major step forward in the retail landscape, where data-driven strategies and efficient operational structures are increasingly indispensable in creating lasting customer relationships. Hanshow continues to support leading retailers in crafting efficient and future-ready store environments, adapting to the fast-evolving market conditions. As the competitive battle intensifies in health and beauty retail, strategic partnerships like that of Superdrug and Hanshow will be critical in shaping the future of retail.

Through this initiative, Superdrug is poised not only to boost its operational efficiencies but also enhance the shopping experience for customers, ensuring that their health and beauty needs are met with precision and care in a digitally advanced environment.

This partnership represents a pivotal moment in how brick-and-mortar retailers can leverage advanced technologies to remain competitive and relevant in the eyes of modern consumers.
