GEDU Global Education Signs Landmark Agreement with UNITAR at CIFAL Conference in London
GEDU Global Education Forms Strategic Partnership with UNITAR
In a significant milestone for international education and sustainability, GEDU Global Education, a UK-based multinational educational organization, has signed a formal agreement with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). This partnership was announced during the XXII Annual Steering Committee Meeting of the CIFAL Global Network held from December 9 to 11, 2025, in London, which gathered over 70 delegates from more than 30 countries.
The newly forged agreement positions GEDU to operate one of UNITAR's 32 international training centers. These centers are intended to provide capacity-building programs aimed at advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that were established by the United Nations in 2015.
During the committee meeting, the performance of the CIFAL network was reviewed, highlighting that over 161,000 beneficiaries have been trained since the beginning of 2025. Delegates formulated a comprehensive strategy to enhance capacity building for the realization of the SDGs over the next five years, reflecting a clear commitment to sustainable development.
In conjunction with this announcement, GEDU also presented its first sustainability report at a parliamentary event hosted by Baroness Verma, with the UK Minister for AI and Online Safety, Kanishka Narayan, in attendance. This report delineates the contributions made by all GEDU institutions in support of the UN’s Agenda for 2030 and its related SDGs.
GEDU's CEO, Dr. Vishwajeet Rana, expressed enthusiasm regarding this partnership, describing it as a groundbreaking endeavor. “This agreement allows us to further collaborate with the United Nations, UNITAR, and all CIFAL centers globally in our sustainability work. Last week in London, we explored avenues for collaboration for 2026, which will harness the evolving UN 2.0 and the Pact for the Future initiatives that shape the UN’s development agenda towards 2030,” he stated.
Dr. Rana emphasized the importance of the sustainability report and how it exemplifies GEDU’s dedication to addressing all SDGs. “Our 16 institutions across the globe aim to lead in implementing these goals. The report outlines our objectives for 2026 and beyond, signifying our long-term vision,” he added.
Furthermore, Dr. Rana noted the extensive contribution of GEDU to UNITAR transcends the borders of London. With operational presence in 16 countries, including both American locations like Toronto and Tampa, as well as in Europe, the Middle East, India, and Australia, GEDU can infuse a global perspective to generate impactful outcomes.
Alex Mejia, Director of the UNITAR Division for People and Social Development and Head of the CIFAL Global Network, remarked on the strategic importance of this contract for building the capacities necessary to meet the 17 UN SDGs. Many CIFAL centers are affiliated with universities, underscoring the crucial role higher education plays in this initiative.
Mejia added, “With a prestigious organization like GEDU operating CIFAL London, we are better positioned to reach our goal of training 200,000 beneficiaries in the coming year. The activities across multiple continents and our truly global focus give me great optimism about what we can achieve together in the near future.”
