SSTR2026: An Unforgettable Opening Ceremony

The SSTR2026 (Sunrise Sunset Touring Rally 2026) is gearing up for its opening ceremony scheduled for May 23, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM. Hosted by the SSTR Executive Committee led by Kazama Fukashi in Shibuya, Tokyo, this event will take place at a special venue located at the endpoint of the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, spanning from Hōdatsushimizu Town to Hakui City in Ishikawa Prefecture.

This year's rally marks the 14th iteration of SSTR and is unique as it introduces an inaugural opening ceremony. This event is more than just a launch; it symbolizes the social importance of the rally and reinforces the connection with local communities.

A Celebration of Community and Safety

Upon arrival, thousands of riders will be welcomed with a fanfare performed by local children's brass bands. The ceremony will commence with a traffic safety prayer led by a nearby shrine, ensuring the safety of all participants during the event period. Several guests from nine municipalities within Ishikawa Prefecture will witness the grand event and participate in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting.

The opening ceremony is designed to create a vibrant atmosphere, inviting riders from across the country to engage with local residents. The aim is to create a symbolic spectacle that celebrates solidarity, sending a warm cheer to the Noto Peninsula. Although vehicle access to the venue will be restricted during the proceedings, the general public and participating riders are welcome to observe.

With the background of a breathtaking coastal drive, participants will gather under the stunning scenery of the Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, making this a picturesque kickoff to an exceptional week ahead.

What is SSTR?

The Sunrise Sunset Touring Rally (SSTR) is Japan's premier motorcycle touring rally, initiated by the famed adventurer Kazama Fukashi. What began in 2013 with just 130 motorcycles has blossomed into a grand festival that celebrates adventure and travel rather than speed alone.

Participants embark at sunrise along Japan's eastern coastline, following an original GPS system that directs them to various checkpoints, all while aiming to complete the journey by sunset at the destination in Ishikawa. Riders are empowered to choose their routes and goals, fostering a spirit of personal challenge rather than competition. This spirit is further enhanced by the enthusiastic support from local communities and local government, a hallmark of the event's charm.

The 2026 rally is set to take place from May 23 (Saturday) to May 31 (Sunday), and promises to deliver an experience filled with camaraderie, scenic routes, and unforgettable memories.
