Experience the Inaugural Craft Marche in Hokuryu Town
In the heart of Hokuryu Town, renowned for having Japan's largest sunflower field, a unique event is set to take place. The first
Craft Marche Supported by Creema will be held on
October 18 and 19, 2025, promising a vibrant showcase of local craftsmanship and creativity. This event aims to connect creators with the community while celebrating the beauty of Hokuryu's iconic sunflowers.
Located between Sapporo and Asahikawa, Hokuryu Town is a small yet enchanting locale with a population of just 1,600. Known for its sprawling sunflower fields, the town attracts more than 200,000 visitors annually during its sunflower festival, making it a beloved summer destination in Japan. The craft marche seeks to build on this popularity and create a platform for artistic expression and community interaction.
A Diverse Showcase of Talent
The Craft Marche will feature over
20 talented creators from various backgrounds, including a bag designer from Kanagawa, a leather craftsman from Ibaraki, and an embroidery artist from Sapporo. Attendees can also take part in hands-on workshops focused on traditional crafts, such as tsumami zaiku (Japanese silk flower arrangement) and accessories made from organza materials. Local creators will join the festivities, and popular coffee shops and food trucks will be on-site to provide delicious refreshments.
Unique Sunflower-Themed Creations
One of the highlights of this event is the special project where participating creators will develop original works inspired by Hokuryu's sunflowers. Expect to see an array of sunflower-themed accessories, home goods, bouquets, and stationery featuring unique designs that reflect the town's spirit. Finished products will be available for early sale at the marche before being sold exclusively online on Creema. They will also be showcased at the
Sunflower Hokuryu Road Station and the
HandMade in Japan Fes' Winter 2026 event at Tokyo Big Sight.
Engaging with the Community
In addition to the marketplace, this event will foster connections between creators and local businesses, promoting the rich culture of craftsmanship present in Hokuryu Town. Participants will have the opportunity to experience life in Hokuryu, encouraging potential future moves to this charming town. By anchoring their events around creativity and community engagement, Creema aims to enhance the town's vibrancy and grow its local population.
Creema, which operates as Japan's largest handmade marketplace, continues to leverage its extensive network and experience in event management to promote traditional techniques and crafts across the nation. The initiative is focused on fostering community co-creation through the celebration of artistry.
