Hoymiles Promotes Solar Sustainability in Freiburg

In a remarkable display of commitment to solar sustainability, Hoymiles, a leading provider of solar energy and storage solutions, has supported a solar panel upcycling event in Freiburg, Germany, for the third year running. This year's initiative saw the conversion of 600 used solar panels into efficient plug-in photovoltaic (PV) systems, a testament to the effectiveness of recycling in the renewable energy sector.

On October 1, 2026, the event organized by BalkonSolar e.V., a German non-profit organization dedicated to promoting solar power, brought together over 500 community members, local organizations, and representatives from the public sector. Together, they assembled a total of 300 plug-in solar systems, each consisting of two repurposed PV modules, a microinverter, and the necessary cabling. These 600 panels had previously powered a toothbrush factory in the Black Forest region for an impressive 13 years.

BalkonSolar e.V. reported that a mere 5% of the panels showed defects, with the majority being viable for immediate reuse. The completed systems were distributed to participating citizens at no cost, supported by funding from the City of Freiburg's
