FMA Foundation's New Chapter: Introducing SparkForce
The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association (FMA), a prominent trade organization in the realm of metal fabrication, has announced a significant transformation to its charitable foundation's name. Effective January 1, 2025, Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs has officially become
SparkForce. This rebranding reflects FMA's continuous commitment to fostering the future of manufacturing and attracting the next generation of workforce talent.
Driven by a Mission
FMA President and CEO Ed Youdell expressed that the new name encapsulates a mission to excite young individuals about manufacturing careers. The focus is on a manufacturing landscape that extends far beyond traditional perceptions limited to 'nuts and bolts.' As Youdell noted, modern manufacturing is increasingly about advanced technologies and innovations. The new identity, SparkForce, aims to reinforce these contemporary values and better connect with the workforce lifecycle within the industry.
Addressing Workforce Challenges
The manufacturing sector currently faces a labor shortage crisis, which SparkForce seeks to mitigate through its collective efforts. The foundation is dedicated to engaging audiences of all ages, stimulating interest in manufacturing careers via scholarships, summer camps, and inclusive programming. The transformation from Nuts, Bolts & Thingamajigs to SparkForce symbolizes a renewed vigor in confronting these challenges. To date, the FMA Foundation has awarded upwards of
$1.6 million in scholarships to students pursuing manufacturing-related careers.
As part of these initiatives, SparkForce will continue to provide scholarships twice a year for high school graduates and returning students enrolled in manufacturing-centric degree and certificate programs. Additionally, the foundation has allocated over
$3.1 million in grants to bolster its successful manufacturing camp initiative. These camps target partner colleges, educational institutions, and community organizations nationwide, fostering interest and skills in manufacturing among youth and young adults. In 2025 alone, an anticipated
5,000+ young individuals are expected to benefit from the SparkForce Camps, paving their pathways toward rewarding careers in the manufacturing sector.
