Doral Renewables Celebrates Major Milestones in Mammoth Solar Project with 900 MW Capacity

Doral Renewables Celebrates Commercialization of Mammoth Solar

Doral Renewables LLC has officially celebrated the imminent commercial operation of the final phases of the Mammoth Solar project, specifically Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I, and Mammoth Central II. Together, these three phases will deliver a substantial power capacity of 900 MWac, culminating in what is regarded as one of the largest operational solar power complexes in the United States, with a total output of 1.3 GW.

Over the past 18 months, construction has been extensive and ambitious. At peak periods, the project site employed around 1,800 workers daily, showcasing a tremendous effort towards green energy. An impressive feat was achieved when 20,000 solar panels were installed each day, reflecting the project's scale and urgency in responding to the country’s energy needs.

Doral Renewables is not stopping at just traditional solar generation. They are actively pursuing innovative approaches like Agrivoltaics, a dual-use practice that integrates agricultural activities with solar energy production. Plans include various partnerships to cultivate specialty crops and promote practices like sheep and cattle grazing on the solar site. The company is also collaborating with Purdue University, aiming to create synergies between renewable energy and local farming.

Nick Cohen, Doral Renewables' President and CEO, stated, "Today symbolizes the culmination of a true partnership between Doral and the Pulaski County community. What began as a vision aimed at economic development has evolved into a project that far exceeds our expectations. We aspire to develop one of the leading dual-use solar sites in the United States and to enhance our partnership with local farmers."

The celebration was graced by Indiana's Secretary of Energy, Suzanne Jaworowski, who underlined the importance of prompt electrical supply during today's energy sector transitions. "With current electricity demand soaring, we need every electron possible fed into the grid," she remarked. Secretary Jaworowski further emphasized the project as a prime example of how energy infrastructure can galvanize economic development while safeguarding the state's agricultural heritage.

The event spotlighted the project’s significant economic impacts. Robert Vinje, Chief Operating Officer of Nextpower, emphasized the interconnectedness of American manufacturing and energy infrastructure, stating, "This project is a clear demonstration of how local resources and labor contribute to building a sustainable power grid that benefits our communities."

Finley Lewis, North America Renewables Operations Manager at Bechtel, expressed gratitude towards the trade unions and the workforce that persevered through various challenges, reinforcing the collaborative nature of the project. "This accomplishment reflects the commitment and partnership of the dedicated men and women who have ensured the community will benefit from clean energy for years to come."
