Avelo Airlines Celebrates Five Years of Service at Tweed-New Haven Airport

Avelo Airlines proudly commemorated its fifth anniversary at Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN), having initiated its inaugural flight in Connecticut on November 3, 2021. This occasion was joyfully celebrated by Avelo's Founder and CEO, Andrew Levy, alongside the airline's dedicated crewmembers, valued customers, and local community leaders.

To mark this significant milestone, Avelo is offering a special promotion, using the code "5YEARS," which can grant travelers up to a 50% discount on base fares for journeys booked through March 31, 2027, via AveloAir.com.

In just five years, Avelo has transformed into Connecticut's premier low-cost airline, providing the most nonstop flights in the state. The airline boasts impressive statistics: over 5.2 million passengers have flown through Tweed-New Haven, with more than 40,000 flights and 29 nonstop destinations. Notably, Avelo has dedicated seven aircraft to its operations in the region, making up over 40% of its entire fleet. Additionally, it has expanded its workforce to nearly 350 crewmembers in Connecticut.

Avelo's CEO, Andrew Levy, emphasized the airline's commitment to Connecticut, stating, "Five years ago, we took a chance on Tweed-New Haven Airport and on Connecticut travelers, and Connecticut has answered. Since our first flight, we have flown more than 5.2 million travelers through Tweed on more than 40,000 flights across 29 nonstop routes, and our Connecticut team has grown to 350 Crewmembers. Five of those Crewmembers have been with us since our very first flight from Tweed, and their dedication reflects everything Avelo stands for. We are proud to be Connecticut's hometown airline, offering convenient and affordable air travel to Southern Connecticut, the gateway to New York City."

In a nod to its continuous growth trajectory, Avelo will introduce its newest destination from HVN, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico (BQN), starting on Thursday, November 19. This marks another exciting addition to Avelo’s network beyond the continental U.S.

The Chairman of the Tweed-New Haven Airport Authority, Robert Reed, praised Avelo's contributions, stating, "Five years ago, our partnership with Avelo opened the door to a new era of affordable, convenient air service at Tweed-New Haven Airport. That partnership has fueled extraordinary growth, with Avelo now offering more nonstop destinations than any other airline in Connecticut. For our passengers, it means more choices and more opportunities to fly from an airport close to home. We look forward to building on this success and serving our region for years to come."

Avelo's expansion efforts have also sparked an increase in good-paying jobs and enhanced local economic activity, benefitting businesses throughout Connecticut. Garrett Shaheen, President of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce, noted Avelo's investment in the region, which has resulted in new jobs and increased flight availability.

To further foster career opportunities in aviation, the celebration spotlighted the East Haven Aviation Career Exploration Program, created in collaboration with East Haven Schools and Avelo. This initiative aims to inspire students about the diverse career paths available in aviation within their local community.

In its relatively short operational history, which began on April 28, 2021, Avelo Airlines has successfully flown over 10.5 million customers on more than 82,000 flights. The airline now serves 39 destinations spanning 17 states and Puerto Rico, which includes its recent expansions to Aguadilla and San Juan.

Avelo Airlines is distinguished by its commitment to providing affordable air travel through the use of smaller, less crowded airports, offering travelers the convenience of proximity while ensuring competitive fare pricing. Additionally, Avelo empowers its customers to select payment options tailored to their preferences.

The airline also introduced the Avelo PLUS membership, which features exclusive benefits such as immediate fare discounts and priority boarding. Cardholders of the new Avelo Airlines World Elite Mastercard can earn Avelo Cash on their purchases, receiving added perks when booking travel with the airline, like priority boarding and baggage handling.

With a fleet of 17 Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft and plans to introduce the Embraer E195-E2, Avelo continues to set the stage for a paradigm shift in air travel, epitomizing convenience, affordability, and reliability. As the airline prepares for continued growth, it remains dedicated to serving Connecticut travelers while shaping the future of air travel from Tweed-New Haven Airport.
