Discover the Enchantment of Aged Spirits and Antique Glassware

From July 19 through August 20, Wako, a cherished establishment in Ginza, Tokyo, is hosting an extraordinary exhibition titled "The World of Aged Spirits and Antique Glass." Curated by Hiroto Matsunaga, a prominent figure in the whiskey importing industry, this event promises a fascinating journey through the exquisite universe of vintage liquors and elegant glassware.

Wako's basement, home to the Arts and Culture section, aims to provide patrons with not just fine products but a profound experience that echoes the essence of Japanese culture. As the venue approaches its first anniversary on July 20, 2025, it continues to be a hub for both tradition and innovation, facilitating unique moments that can only be found at Wako.

A Celebration of Timeless Elegance

In […] collaboration with Matsunaga, the exhibition features a curated collection of rare whiskeys and cognacs, including Scotch aged for over 80 years. Each item is paired with exquisite antique glasses, including renowned pieces from Lalique and Baccarat, creating an immersive environment that transports visitors to times long past. The exhibition will also include special displays of antique furniture, enhancing the atmosphere and allowing guests to engage with history through art.

Meet Hiroto Matsunaga

Hiroto Matsunaga serves as the director of RUDDER LTD, a specialist in the import and export of whiskey. His expertise lies in sourcing distinctive single-cask whiskeys and releasing various Japanese expressions annually. Matsunaga’s dedication to the craft is evident in his passion for sharing these remarkable spirits with connoisseurs and enthusiasts alike.

Insights from Matsunaga

Reflecting on his experiences, Matsunaga reminisces about tasting a rum from 1830, a year notable for historical upheavals in France. He explains that savoring long-aged spirits transcends mere drinking; it becomes a ceremony that allows participants to appreciate time itself. "To enjoy a spirit aged over centuries is to connect with the countless stories and craftsmanship that each bottle encapsulates," he shares. For Matsunaga, this experience invokes a rich tapestry of history, where each sip invites drinkers to reflect on the journey of craftsmanship and the passage of time.
