Introduction
In July 2025, many individuals still find it challenging to remove their masks, despite the COVID-19 situation evolving significantly since May 2023. Feelings of fear, anxiety, and social pressure have contributed to these struggles, leading to conditions like obsessive-compulsive disorder and anxiety disorder for many. The heavy summer heat in Japan exacerbates the physical dangers of continuous mask-wearing. To address this pressing issue, we have developed a unique cognitive-behavioral approach based on our extensive experience in teaching English conversation through EMIX.
About the Program
The program is led by Masaki Hamano, CEO of EMIX Group and a specialist in English conversation and studying abroad. With a remarkable track record of guiding over 50,000 students since 2005 and the publication of his book "Removing Mental Blocks to Speak English," Hamano aims to empower participants to confront their fears.
This intensive one-month program incorporates psychological techniques prevalent in language learning, such as breaking free from limiting beliefs and rebuilding self-esteem. The objective is to alleviate anxiety and prepare participants mentally to remove their masks.
Global Perspective
Unlike in Japan, many Westerners do not wear masks unless necessary, as their conditioning allows them to be uninhibited by the opinions of others. This stark contrast has led to confusion among foreign visitors regarding the ongoing mask usage in Japan, especially in the sweltering heat. It is essential to recognize that this issue transcends viruses and reflects a mindset problem — the tendency to focus excessively on societal expectations and peer pressure.

The Impact of Parental Influence
Many children continue to struggle with wearing masks, influenced largely by adults’ perspectives. Comments like, "You'll be looked at weirdly if you take it off" or "Everyone is wearing one, so you shouldn’t either" unconsciously instill a negative association with removing masks in children.
A Call for Change
It's essential to question how much longer we will continue to live with this imposed situation.
Whether it's fear or a lack of clarity, an excessive reliance on masks has lasted far too long. It’s time to challenge ourselves and remove our “mental masks.” Drawing from our extensive experience in transforming the lives of numerous English learners, we are dedicated to aiding your personal liberation.
