Mikata Mizuta Crowdfunding Project
Mikata Mizuta, a para shooter ranked fourth in the world, affiliated with Hakuju Biological Science Institute based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has launched a crowdfunding project on the athlete-focused platform, Furisake, starting from August 31, 2026. The goal is to gather funds to propel her towards the pinnacle of global shooting.
Project Background and Heartfelt Mission
Living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a rare peripheral nerve disease that causes muscle atrophy, Mizuta competes in shooting with a rifle while using a wheelchair. Her remarkable skill earned her six consecutive victories at the Japanese Para Shooting Championships. Despite her achievements, Mizuta faces fierce competition from global athletes who continue to evolve rapidly. In order to enhance her capabilities, she needs to participate in international competitions around the world and gain experience in rigorous real-world settings. Unfortunately, soaring travel costs due to historical yen depreciation and rising prices pose significant challenges. The total expenses for this season alone are estimated to reach approximately 9 million yen, considering travel costs, maintenance of her shooting rifle, and ammunition.
Determined not to give up on her dream of competing on a global level due to financial constraints, Mizuta's resolve extends beyond personal ambition. She wishes to advance the history of para shooting in Japan and share the beauty of the sport with as many individuals as possible. This crowdfunding initiative aims to join hands with fans and the community to collectively pursue the summit of the shooting world.
A Message from Mikata Mizuta
"After facing my illness in the second year of middle school and becoming wheelchair-bound, my life changed when I first experienced shooting at a beam rifle event. The thrill of hitting the target and forging connections with wonderful teammates through shooting—these moments have been transformative for me. I believe that continually achieving results as an athlete and aiming for the world top will elevate Japanese para shooting and serve as the best opportunity to introduce the sport to a broader audience."
Mizuta's challenge to reach the top globally and her grassroots activities through beam rifle experience sessions will serve as steps toward creating a kinder society where everyone can connect seamlessly and support one another. She encourages the community to come together as a team to pursue success on the world stage while seeking their warm support and encouragement.
