Spanning across five days from October 7 to 11, the initiative attracted more than 2,900 attendees, including NBA legends, students, and local community members.
Uniting Diverse Communities
Organized in conjunction with the NBA China Games 2026, this yearly event aimed to enhance involvement within the Macao community by leveraging the excitement of a global sporting event. This year's initiative engaged various stakeholders from different backgrounds, promoting youth development and cultural exchanges through basketball.
The festivities kicked off with Youth Day, on October 7, where 200 young enthusiasts from the Greater Bay Area and Hainan province participated in basketball training session and friendly matches guided by NBA legend Ray Allen. The event sought to foster friendships through sports while enhancing their basketball skills. In the wake of such dignified leadership, participants left feeling inspired and united.
A Shared Passion for Sports on Tip-Off Day
Tip-Off Day, marking the second event on October 8, continued the momentum as current players from the Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets teamed up with local students at The Venetian Arena. They engaged in a basketball clinic and teamed up to package goodie bags for community service. Approximately 400 participants including media representatives and various organization members joined to bask in the community spirit through basketball.
Enriching Experiences on School Day
The third event, School Day on October 9, created a harmonious blend of sports and cultural education at Yuet Wah College, where NBA legend Mitch Richmond shared insights through basketball clinics, coupled with a hands-on Chinese calligraphy experience. This unique combination invited about 600 participants, highlighting the synergy between sports and culture.
Aiming for Health and Wellness Day
Continuing into Health and Wellness Day on October 10, NBA legends, including Stephon Marbury and Cuttino Mobley, collaborated with Sands China executives to prepare and distribute 200 boxed lunches to those in need, providing a total of 1,500 meals to community members. The event also featured wellness workshops focused on healthy living, ensuring that participants were nurtured in both body and spirit.
The Concluding Community Basketball Carnival
On October 11, the week culminated in a vibrant Community Basketball Carnival at NBA HOUSE, inviting around 200 participants, including special appearances from Chris Bosh and Sands Global Ambassador Sir David Beckham. The carnival fused various activities to enhance family engagement and social inclusion while participating in basketball clinics and interactive experiences. This event was a perfect reiteration of the community support the NBA Cares x Sands Cares initiative set out to achieve.
