New Leadership at Healthy Futures of Texas
Healthy Futures of Texas (HFTX), a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to sexual and reproductive health education, has recently announced a significant change in leadership. After a noteworthy tenure, CEO Evelyn Delgado has retired, and the organization has appointed Ginger Mullaney, who previously served as the Chief Mission Officer, to take the helm effective immediately. This transition comes at a crucial time as the organization seeks to expand its impact on youth health initiatives across Texas.
Mullaney expressed her commitment to strengthening collaborations with community leaders and organizations, emphasizing the necessity of uniting healthcare, educational, and social service sectors to improve the well-being of youth. “It is my priority to engage meaningfully with our partners,” Mullaney stated, highlighting the importance of building a cohesive network of services that cater to the health and educational needs of young Texans.
Under Delgado’s leadership, HFTX underwent a pivotal merger in 2022, combining forces with the Texas Campaign and Ntarupt to create a stronger statewide organization equipped to tackle the challenges of unintended teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Reflecting on her experience at HFTX, Delgado said, “I'm incredibly proud of the impact we've made in increasing access to youth and family empowerment programs and preventive healthcare for women.” Her accomplishments include advocating for critical legislative changes that enhance policy and funding for health services in Texas, even as these resources face constant shifts amid political changes.
Dr. Adelina Silva, the Chair of the HFTX Board, praised both leaders, commending Delgado as a “fierce champion for women and young Texans” and recognizing Mullaney as “the right leader at the right time.” Silva further noted that the current landscape for sexual health nonprofits requires urgent and innovative responses to navigate challenges in funding and policy.
Mullaney aims to utilize her leadership to meet the widening gaps in access to comprehensive sexual health information for Texas youth. One of her first initiatives is the launch of HFTX Classroom, an innovative online training portal. This platform expands the organization's educational reach by providing resources for parents, educators, and nonprofit leaders. It offers skills in classroom facilitation, puberty and sexual health education, and career advancement opportunities, alongside continuing education credits for various professions.
Since its inception in 2006, Healthy Futures has successfully trained nearly 10,000 youth-serving professionals, ensuring that they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to address the sexual health needs of the communities they serve. Mullaney remarked, “Technological innovation ensures we fill gaps in health education, meeting the diverse needs of Texas youth and communities.”
Healthy Futures of Texas remains steadfast in its mission to empower young Texans by providing access to sexual health education, contraception, and additional health resources. The organization seeks to dismantle barriers and expand its reach to ensure that all young people have access to the information and healthcare they need.
