Paralympian Mei Ichinose Embarks on Life-Changing REBOOST Journey

Paralympian Mei Ichinose's Transformative Experience with REBOOST

Mei Ichinose, a former competitive swimmer and Paralympian, has recently taken part in the self-coaching program "REBOOST" by Mizukara, a Tokyo-based company. With a career in competitive sports now behind her, Ichinose is seeking to explore new paths and redefine her identity outside of the pool. Her decision to join the program stemmed from a deep desire to unlock further potential in herself.

During her journey with REBOOST, she discovered insights about her own thought patterns and emotions that she had previously overlooked in her day-to-day life. Through careful self-reflection, she was able to organize these thoughts to understand her core values and strengths better. Ichinose expressed, "As a result, I've gained solid confidence to believe in myself and take steps towards the future."

The Challenge of Leaving Competitive Sports

Stepping away from professional sports posed significant challenges for Ichinose. It meant confronting the fears of living without the accomplishments and titles that once defined her, such as being a national representative. Daily life as an athlete was centered around achieving goals, but now she was faced with introspection about her interests, strengths, and the person she wanted to become moving forward.

Ichinose’s commitment to explore these aspects led her to participate in the REBOOST program. Over the course of two intensive days, she encountered revelations about her thought patterns and emotions she had sealed away. "Through this experience," she shares, "I felt a sensation of shedding unnecessary burdens, uncovering newfound depths of self-understanding. The more I faced these insights, the greater my self-trust grew."

She emerged from the program with a collection of new personal insights and is excited about moving into the future with this new understanding.

A Glimpse Into Mei Ichinose's Background

Mei Ichinose was born in Kyoto in 1997 to a British father and a Japanese mother, and she was born with a shortened right arm. She began swimming at the age of one and secured her place in history as the youngest competitor at the 2010 Asian Games, where she won a silver medal in the 50-meter freestyle, breaking a national record. Over nearly a decade, she has achieved numerous medals in national and international competitions. At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympics, she achieved her dreams by competing in eight events and in 2020, she ranked #1 globally in the 200m individual medley (S9 class). Ichinose announced her retirement in 2021, holding nine Japanese records.

She was notably the first para-swimmer to join the prestigious water sports club at Kinki University and incorporated the use of a prosthetic arm during training, breaking new ground in the competitive sports arena. After her transition from being an athlete, Ichinose has been involved as a model, speaker, and actress while continuing her advocacy for disability awareness and inspiring others through her motto: "If society creates barriers for disabilities, it can also dismantle them."

Understanding REBOOST

REBOOST is an immersive two-day self-coaching program designed to help participants reconnect with their true selves. Through daily routines and societal pressures, individuals often find themselves constrained by subconscious beliefs, which inhibit their potential. This leads to common issues such as a lack of clarity on what one truly desires or an inability to establish a solid sense of identity.

The REBOOST program utilizes offline group work and experiential activities to help participants recognize the limiting beliefs that confine them. By reflecting on past experiences and replacing these beliefs with empowering new ones, participants can rediscover their authentic selves and establish their paths forward in life without being swayed by external validation or labels.
