THE “能” IN月夜のアートニーズシモキタザワ
The much-loved event,
'THE “能” IN月夜のアートニーズシモキタザワ' is making its debut return after charming audiences since its start in 2022. Taking place from
October 3rd to October 4th, 2026, this event invites everyone to gather at the Shimokitazawa East Exit Square and enjoy a night filled with mesmerizing performances of Noh Theatre, themed around the moon.
Organized by the Shimokitazawa South Exit Shopping Street Promotion Association, this event aims to create a community-oriented atmosphere, where local stores join forces to celebrate the beauty of the moon. This year’s performances will feature two captivating Noh pieces:
“Kumasaka” and
“Hagoromo”. Both pieces spotlight narratives that resonate with traditional Japanese culture and art.
Kumasaka showcases a thrilling depiction of a band of bandits led by the infamous Kumasaka, portraying the tense atmosphere of nighttime confrontations and battles. In contrast,
Hagoromo unfolds a serene tale about a celestial maiden who returns to the moon after retrieving her feather robe. These two contrasting performances offer a balanced experience of the intense and tranquil essence of Noh.
Both pieces will be performed together in a condensed 30-minute format, making it accessible for first-time attendees.
Furthermore, an intriguing
Noh Workshop is scheduled on
October 3rd from 16:00 to 17:00. This interactive session allows participants to step onto an actual Noh stage, experience the art of chanting, and try on a real Noh mask. Entry is free and no prior reservation is necessary, although attendees are encouraged to bring white tabi socks for comfort. The workshop will be conducted by esteemed instructor
Takahiro Kitanami, a recognized Noh artist.
The open-air square will also become a lively marketplace, featuring local vendors throughout the afternoons, ensuring visitors can enjoy delicious food and drink under the moonlit sky. Food stalls will operate each day from 13:00 to 21:00, with last orders at 20:50.
