MetLife Japan's Involvement in Global Money Week 2026
MetLife Life Insurance Co., Ltd., led by President and CEO Dirk Osteen, is excited to participate in the upcoming Global Money Week (GMW) from March 16 to 22, 2026. This international initiative, organized by the OECD's International Network for Financial Education (INFE), aims to promote financial education and inclusion for children and young people worldwide. During this week, various organizations across the globe will implement events designed to raise awareness and knowledge about financial literacy among youth. In Japan, the celebration will run throughout March 2026.
The theme for this year’s GMW is “Smart Money Talks,” emphasizing essential goals such as:
- - Encouraging young people to freely discuss money-related topics.
- - Helping them identify trustworthy financial information sources.
- - Equipping them with the skills necessary to make informed decisions amidst the influence of digital finance, social media, AI, and popular influencers.
MetLife has committed to creating a sustainable future by contributing to vibrant local communities. As part of this commitment, the company has developed various financial education programs tailored to different age groups. Young children learn about the importance of money, while high school students engage in “life planning to realize their dreams and hopes.” These programs are designed to provide new insights that can be applied in the future.
During GMW, MetLife plans to conduct a financial education program for elementary school students in Nagasaki. This interactive lesson will not only involve theoretical components but will also include fun activities such as shopping games, allowing children to think critically about money from various perspectives. Through hands-on experiences, MetLife aims to foster behavioral changes in children, supporting their journey toward financial independence.
These initiatives align with GMW's mission to provide financial education and inclusion opportunities for all children and youth. In addition to local efforts in Japan, MetLife USA has also begun collaborating with the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund. This initiative seeks to expand access to quality education and sports participation for children around the world, promoting educational equity through grants to local organizations. As a key partner, MetLife supports children in engaging with diverse values and social issues, enabling them to forge a brighter future.
Consistent with this year’s GMW theme, MetLife will continue to advance its financial education programs worldwide and locally, ensuring they are valuable resources for even more individuals. With a rich history as Japan’s first foreign life insurance company since starting operations in 1973, MetLife Japan, a subsidiary of the global MetLife group, remains dedicated to providing optimal coverage solutions for its customers through innovative products offered via multiple sales channels.
