Mitsubishi Estate Opens New Shared Recovery Room in Yurakucho

Mitsubishi Estate Launches Shared Recovery Room

On October 1, 2026, Mitsubishi Estate Co., Ltd. is set to open its second shared recovery room, "TOMARIGI Shin-Tokyo Building," in Yurakucho. This initiative is a key component of the Marunouchi “whole city workplace” project aimed at providing comprehensive solutions that are difficult for individual tenants to achieve solo. Previous success at the first location in Otemachi has spurred this expansion.

The concept of "TOMARIGI" emerged through Mitsubishi Estate's new business proposal system and began trial operations in October 2023 within the Otemachi Building. It represents Japan's first business model offering a shared recovery room among companies, a solution that addresses the increasing demand for employee wellness spaces. The wellness sector has seen a notable rise recently, as awareness of health management and appropriate rest has become increasingly vital. Alarmingly, the economic loss due to presenteeism—where employees are physically present but not fully engaged—has reached approximately 37 trillion yen.

Recent surveys targeting workers in the Marunouchi area indicate that a staggering 67.6% have reported feeling unwell or fatigued yet continue to work. Moreover, 83.4% noted a lack of support for short breaks during work hours, while 65.1% expressed the need for such initiatives. Feedback from HR personnel shows that nearly 80% recognize short breaks as essential for employee well-being and health management. Though legal requirements exist for recovery room installation, many companies still lack adequate facilities and often hear complaints regarding accessibility and usability, particularly when rooms serve multiple purposes.

In response, TOMARIGI aims to fulfill these needs, promoting necessary relaxation and rejuvenation for local workers. This initiative supports healthier work environments and enhances productivity, reflecting a broader commitment to employee wellness from Mitsubishi Estate.

The importance of health management in corporate environments has never been clearer. As concerns about employee wellness grow, more organizations recognize the impact of fatigue management and sleep quality on productivity. The shared recovery room concept—"WELL REST, WELL WORK"—focuses on resetting employees' physical and mental states to enhance performance. Facilities include areas designated for rest during illness and specialized “charge” functions aimed at relieving stress and renewing energy through targeted activities.

Workers from partner companies may access the recovery room during operational hours to engage in short power naps or massage sessions. Personal trainers are on hand to offer tailored stretching guidance, allowing for effective fatigue management based on individual needs and conditions. The shared recovery room, TOMARIGI, first officially opened in April 2025 at the Otemachi Building, and since then, its positive effects are clear, with over 9,000 users and around 20 partner companies recorded within a year and a half.

With plans for further expansion in the Marunouchi area, Mitsubishi Estate's continuing dedication reinforces the city’s appeal as a desirable place for both businesses and workers. TOMARIGI serves as a transformative solution for companies struggling to create necessary rest spaces alone, thereby advancing local worker well-being and supporting thriving corporate health management practices.
