Israeli Teens Empowered through Healing Journey in Arizona

Journey of Healing in Arizona for Israeli Teens

In December 2025, ten Israeli teenagers concluded a meaningful two-week retreat in Arizona, part of the Journey to Renewal program by World ORT Kadima Mada. Designed to help young individuals coping with severe traumas from the events of October 7, this initiative provided them with a reprieve from their distressing experiences and an opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Each participant faced their unique hardships; some lost loved ones, while others experienced displacement or witnessed violence firsthand. This emotional trauma, now termed First Circle trauma by the Israeli community, often created barriers to their return to academic settings and everyday routines. The program aimed to restore their sense of security and help them regain their confidence.

Collaborative Efforts for a Common Cause

The success of the Journey to Renewal was made possible by an incredible joint effort from the Greater Phoenix Jewish community. J Teen Connect played a crucial role in facilitating the program by securing facilities at the Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center. They collaborated with several groups, including The Center for Jewish Philanthropy of Greater Phoenix, Arizona Jewish Academy, Hillel at Arizona State University, and many others, to orchestrate activities and sponsor the teens at the BBYO Mountain Regional Convention.

Daily Activities: Healing and Fun

The program offered a rich variety of experiences. Each day began at the Valley of the Sun JCC where participants could engage in community service by volunteering at Ezras Cholim, working alongside local students from Arizona Jewish Academy. They also enjoyed pizza dinners organized with J Teen Connect and took part in various fitness and artistic endeavors, fostering a spirit of collaboration and togetherness.

At Hunkapi Farms, the teens participated in therapeutic horse interactions, allowing them to release stress and reconnect with their inner selves. A highlight of the journey included an overnight trip to Sedona and the Grand Canyon, where the teens formed lasting bonds through shared meals and explorations. The Phoenix Suns welcomed them to a home game, where they cheered on the team and enjoyed the excitement of attending an event that truly made them feel special and celebrated.

The Purpose of the Journey to Renewal Program

The Journey to Renewal program specifically assists Israeli teens aged 15-18 who have experienced significant personal losses and trauma due to recent events. By integrating therapeutic support, cultural exchanges, recreational activities, and community engagement, this initiative focuses on helping young individuals rebuild their emotional resilience and regain steady footing in their academic lives. The ultimate goal is to empower them to face their future with newfound strength.

About World ORT

World ORT stands as the largest Jewish educational network, reaching hundreds of thousands of individuals across more than 30 countries. In Israel, ORT Kadima Mada emphasizes STEAM education and social-emotional learning initiatives, particularly within under-resourced and crisis-affected communities, underlining the importance of education and resilience in overcoming challenges.

In conclusion, the Journey to Renewal not only provided the teens with cherished memories and therapeutic experiences but also enabled them to reclaim their lives amidst struggles, thus embracing a future full of possibilities.
