Grief Fest™: A New Dawn for Grieving Hearts
Introduction
The holiday season often brings with it a parade of cheerful imagery—joyful movies, heartwarming commercials, and festive gatherings. However, for many, this time of year can intensify feelings of loss and loneliness. Recognizing this unique struggle, My Grief Angels Inc. has launched Grief Fest™, a groundbreaking film festival dedicated to narratives of grief and healing. Set to run its inaugural session during the 2026 holiday season, Grief Fest™ focuses not only on love and loss but also on the journey toward transformation and resilience.
A Festival with Purpose
Grief Fest™ aims to create a space where the complexities of mourning are honored and shared. Each year comes with its own set of trials for those who have experienced loss, yet society often pushes the notion that the holidays should only be happy and bright. The festival seeks to challenge this narrative, giving a voice to filmmakers who explore grief in its many dimensions. According to the American Psychiatric Association, about 47% of Americans indicate that grief significantly affects their holiday experience, making Grief Fest™ particularly timely and necessary.
Event Details
The festival will operate both in-person and virtually through the Film Festival Plus platform, ensuring that accessibility knows no bounds. Scheduled festivities include two primary windows:
- - Thanksgiving Week (November 25–29, 2026)
- - Christmas/New Year’s (December 24, 2026 – January 3, 2027)
On New Year's Eve, the festival will announce its Top Honors Films, celebrating poignant storytelling that resonates deeply within the human experience of grief.
Inclusiveness and Accessibility
Proudly inclusive and non-religious, Grief Fest™ opens its doors to storytellers from all walks of life, including LGBTQ+ creators. All genres and formats are accepted—whether it's a short film, documentary, or even an experimental piece. What matters most is the emotional truth the filmmakers carry in their work.
By prioritizing access, Grief Fest™ has already garnered film entries from over 25 countries, all set to be screened in English, either through direct dialogue or subtitles. This commitment ensures that no matter where someone finds themselves—perhaps grieving alone—there’s a community waiting to welcome them through the shared language of storytelling.
