Creative Educators Network Returns to Burbank with Exciting Lineup for 2026 Institute
The Creative Educators Network (CEN) is gearing up for an exceptional event from September 23 to September 25, 2026, in Burbank. This year’s Burbank Institute is set to celebrate the contributions of creative educators while bridging connections with the vibrant creative industries of Los Angeles. Attendees can expect a comprehensive three-day program, punctuated by curated Friday Field Trips led by prominent industry partners.
Kick-Off Ceremony
The festival will kick off with the highly anticipated third annual Mitchell McClung Awards, recognizing outstanding creative educators and their collaborative industry partners who are committed to nurturing young talent. Recipients for this year’s awards include Julia Pinhey, the Visual and Performing Arts Director and Technical Theatre Instructor at Santa Susana High School, along with Sony Pictures Entertainment. This studio has been a long-standing ally of CEN, providing essential educational opportunities through its Sony Ambassador program, which equips students with hands-on training and real-world experience.
“A deep commitment to education can be seen in this year’s awardees. Julia Pinhey’s innovative and industry-focused Technical Theatre program instills the necessary skills in students, many of whom pursue careers in related fields across Los Angeles. Sony Pictures embodies the same dedication through their Ambassador program, offering valuable training and mentorship to students,” commented Ashley Adams, Executive Director of the Creative Educators Network.
This year, a special honor will also be given posthumously to Herb Trawick, celebrated music producer and record executive, for his enduring impact on the creative industry and contributions to the new CA-AED Standards. Trawick’s foresight in connecting emerging talent with mentors illustrates his profound legacy in the industry.
“He believed that the creative industry's future was tied to who we invite to collaborate with us. His connections and extensive knowledge were priceless to educators and young talent alike, fostering pathways for aspiring professionals,” said Allison Frenzel, Education Programs Consultant at the California Department of Education.
Additionally, attendees can look forward to a keynote address by beloved actor Rainn Wilson, well-known for his role in the hit series
The Office, alongside a student performance featuring talented individuals from Santa Susana High School.
