K-1 WORLD GP 2026: Title Fight Cancellation Due to Weight Issues

On February 7, one day before the highly anticipated K-1 WORLD GP 2026 event, the official weigh-in took place at a venue in Tokyo, revealing that challenger Okubo Rui exceeded the 55kg limit by 1.3kg, disqualifying him from competing in the scheduled title match against reigning champion Kaneko Akihiro. 2. Okubo will begin the match with a two-point deduction in the first round.
3. Kaneko will wear 8oz gloves while Okubo will use 10oz gloves as a handicap.
4. A penalty of 30% will be deducted from Okubo's fight purse, which will be transferred to Kaneko.
5. The match will only be officially recorded if Kaneko emerges victorious; otherwise, it will be classified as a no contest.

During the press conference following the weigh-in, Producer Miyata explained that Okubo was unable to meet the required weight due to unforeseen circumstances as he struggled to cut the weight, reinforcing K-1's commitment to its athletes' health by adhering strictly to weigh-in regulations without extensions or allowances.

Miyata elaborated, “Okubo's camp communicated late last night about difficulties in weight cutting.
