Supporting Working Parents: Randstad's Summer Event to Alleviate Holiday Worries

Balancing Work and Parenting During Summer Vacations

As the summer vacation approaches, many parents, especially mothers, often find themselves feeling anxious about the long break. According to a recent survey conducted by Randstad, 42% of working mothers expressed fears regarding the summer holiday, tackling the challenges that come with managing work and childcare. In response to these concerns, Randstad, a global leader in comprehensive human resource services, is set to hold a special event aimed at supporting working parents on August 1, 2026. The initiative, titled "Become a Genius Who Turns Passion into Work! A Research of Jobs," aims to alleviate the burdens of working parents while allowing children to explore their interests and strengthen family bonds.

Understanding the 'Summer Vacation Dilemma'

The survey conducted by Randstad highlighted that parents involved in childcare tend to experience heightened anxiety and dread over the summer break compared to their non-parent counterparts. The results revealed that a staggering 70.6% of women reported feeling overwhelmed by their responsibilities during this period, as opposed to 42.6% of men. A closer look at the reasons behind this stress indicates that meal preparation for children, the inability to find personal time, and assisting with homework were the most significant concerns. Another internal survey by Randstad's Employee Resource Group (ERG) confirmed these sentiments, breaking the stereotype that summer vacations are solely enjoyable family time.

Innovative Programs Connecting Kids' Passions to Future Careers

Randstad's event on August 1 will offer a range of engaging programs designed for children, while also providing solutions for the worries of working parents. Although it's just a single day, Randstad believes in the importance of supporting their employees through initiatives that recognize and alleviate summer pressure. The event will take place at Randstad's Kioicho headquarters and will include various fun activities, such as:
  • - Orientation Ceremony: Children will receive specialized computers and employee ID badges as they are welcomed as "Junior Employees" of Randstad.
  • - Career Aptitude Assessment & Favorite Activities Exploration: Kids will participate in a fun and interactive assessment to discover their personal strengths and how their hobbies—like soccer—can translate into future career opportunities.
  • - Workplace Exploration: Children will visit their parents' workspaces to gain insights into their jobs through interviews and memorable photo sessions.
  • - Lunch: Parents can relax and connect with one another without worrying about meal preparations, allowing for enjoyable discussions.
  • - Business Card Creation: Each child will decide on a title for themselves and design their own business card, encouraging them to think like a professional.
  • - Research Report Preparation: The children will compile their experiences, insights, and photographs from the day into a report they can submit as summer homework.
  • - Networking for Parents: While kids are engaged in activities, parents will have the opportunity to exchange thoughts and support each other.
