Research Reveals QR Code Size Main Barrier for Digital Business Cards in Restaurants and Salons

Exploring the Digital Transformation of Business Cards in Restaurants and Beauty Salons

In a recent survey conducted by Plust Inc., it was revealed that digital transformation is a burgeoning trend among restaurant and beauty salon owners, with nearly 90% expressing a positive attitude towards adopting digital business cards. However, the survey also identified a significant challenge: the size of QR codes on traditional paper cards, which is leading to lost opportunities in customer engagements.

Owners often hand out business cards or shop cards to customers to facilitate greetings and encourage return visits. Unfortunately, many owners experience frustration as these cards do not always translate into actual repeat visits or social media follows. One primary reason cited for this disconnect is the inadequacy of physical cards in conveying the allure of menus or treatments, coupled with customers needing to search URLs manually and navigate to booking pages.

The Role of Business Cards in Customer Engagement

When asked about the frequency of handing out business cards in their daily operations, over 80% of respondents from both the restaurant and beauty salon sectors indicated that they distribute cards almost every day or several times a week. This reflects the persistent use of analog business tools, even amidst rapid digital changes, as a crucial customer contact point.

Respondents were also queried about the actions they expect from recipients upon handing out business cards. The dominant responses included:
  • - Restaurant Owners: 50.7% expect repeat visits, 43.5% hope for new visits or online reservations, and 30.4% anticipate social media follows.
  • - Beauty Salon Owners: 48.6% seek repeat visits, 39.2% look for new appointments through reservations, and 32.1% desire social media follows.

This data underscores that the primary goal behind distributing business cards is the direct contribution to sales through returning and new customers. Importantly, over 30% of recipients also expect to follow the business on social media, indicating a desire for ongoing customer relationships initiated through these cards.

The Downside of Paper Cards: Missed Opportunities

Despite acknowledging that approximately 80% felt that their cards sufficiently conveyed their services, many also shared their concerns about what prevents effective customer follow-ups. The most cited reason was the size of QR codes, which 33.3% of participants identified as problematic. This was closely followed by a lack of immediate engagement from customers (32.6%) and the frequent loss or disposal of cards (30.2%).

This highlights how the limitations of physical media can serve as barriers to digital engagement, where sizes of QR codes and the likelihood of card loss are practical impediments that hinder actual customer engagement. Additionally, the significant mention of
