Wavelet Recognized as a New Business Pioneer in Tokyo
Wavelet Inc., led by CEO Tomoyuki Iwamoto, has recently achieved significant recognition from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, being designated as a “New Business Pioneer.” This honor comes following the successful outcomes of the Tokyo government's
On-site Interactive Startup Collaborative Project, where Wavelet showcased an innovative underground utility detection service. This service utilizes the ultra-compact seismic source device known as “PASS” to locate subsurface infrastructure efficiently.
The Project: A Collaborative Effort
The
On-site Interactive Startup Collaborative Project aims to engage startups with advanced technologies to tackle real challenges faced in urban management. In the 2024 fiscal year, Wavelet was selected to collaborate with the Tokyo Metropolitan Waterworks Bureau, focusing on a pressing need: to find a method for identifying the precise locations of underground utilities without excavation during the design phase of construction. This initiative is crucial for maintaining timelines and ensuring safety during various civic projects.
Underground facilities, like electrical, gas, water, and sewage pipelines, often intertwine and can lead to construction delays and safety hazards if not accurately mapped before work begins. Traditional methods for identifying these utilities frequently fall short, particularly for deeper installations, which can complicate and prolong construction timelines, sometimes leading to accidents.
Recognizing this gap, Wavelet developed its seismic detection method, which involves emitting vibrations to gather data about underground locations. The PASS device, which plays a pivotal role in this process, has proven effective in identifying the locations of utilities buried up to four meters deep.
