Costa Rica returns to the prestigious Cannes Film Festival from May 12-20, 2026, marking another significant participation of the nation in this renowned international event. Heading the delegation is PROCOMER, the Trade and Investment Promotion Agency of Costa Rica, alongside the Costa Rican Film Commission, proudly promoting the country’s film industry and showcasing its remarkable audiovisual developments in the global arena. This year, 11 Costa Rican companies are presenting their work at the festival, aiming not only to highlight local talent but also to attract international attention to Costa Rica as a burgeoning film destination.

Among the highlights of Costa Rica's presence at Cannes is the official premiere of the film Siempre soy tu animal materno, directed by the talented Costa Rican filmmaker Valentina Maurel. This film has been selected to compete in the official section Un Certain Regard, making it a moment of pride as it becomes the second Costa Rican production ever to debut in this prestigious category. The film Domingo y la Niebla had the honor of premiering here in 2022, and now Siempre soy tu animal materno continues the journey of Costa Rican cinema making its mark on the international stage.
