Shanghai Electric Showcases Innovations at CIIF 2025
From cutting-edge nuclear power plant equipment to intelligent robotics, Shanghai Electric, a global leader in manufacturing industrial and energy equipment, has unveiled revolutionary advancements in the new energy systems and zero-emission industrial parks at the 25th China International Industry Fair (CIIF 2025). Held from September 23 to 27 in Shanghai, the company's theme for its display at the fair was "Never Stop Evolving."
This theme underscores the company's commitment to enhancing the resilience of global supply chains through clean energy and intelligent manufacturing solutions. With rising demands for energy security and decarbonization, Shanghai Electric aims to facilitate the transition towards a sustainable, high-precision industrial ecosystem.
Industry-Leading Innovations
At CIIF 2025, Shanghai Electric showcased a range of innovative and eco-friendly technological advancements across seven sectors: energy, industry, drives, components, healthcare, environmental protection, and heating and cooling. Notably, the company received four CIIF Energy Awards and two CIIF Industrial Automation Awards, making it the most awarded exhibitor at the fair this year.
Highlights of the exhibition included:
- - Enhanced primary power equipment for the Hualong One reactor and large forging development.
- - Next-generation supercritical steam turbines with capabilities for deep peak smoothing.
- - A hydrogen blend stationary gas turbine unit with a capacity of 300 MW.
- - A two-container vanadium-iron liquid battery energy storage system, rated at 500 kW/2 MWh.
- - Intelligent manufacturing and maintenance algorithm developments along with complex energy equipment implementation.
- - The Spirit Python robot designed for pipe inspection.
As the only provider of high-temperature gas-cooled reactor equipment in China, Shanghai Electric displayed models of its Hualong One and Guohe One reactors. The firm demonstrated its robust capabilities in producing third and fourth-generation nuclear power equipment. Since 2000, Shanghai Electric has been a key participant in the nuclear fusion project known as "Artificial Sun," establishing itself as a comprehensive supplier of core equipment for nuclear reactor systems.
At CIIF 2025, the company revealed critical components of reactor systems, including vacuum chambers, thermal screens, heat exchangers, and Dewar vessels. These displays highlighted China's independent innovation capabilities in controlled nuclear fusion technologies.
Shanghai Electric also introduced an integrated project for producing green methanol using wind energy and biomass, marking China's first large-scale green methanol production initiative certified by ISCC EU. This project provides a scalable path—"electricity-hydrogen-methanol"—towards decarbonization across various sectors, including aviation and shipping.
Enhancing Supply Chain and Intelligent Manufacturing
Moreover, Shanghai Electric is enhancing its supply chains and developing intelligent manufacturing by providing comprehensive solutions for manufacturing, chemical industries, metallurgy, smart cities, and industrial parks. Their precision multi-purpose grinding machines, with nanometer-level accuracy, are employed to create aerospace engine components and robotic joint connectors, broadening the global landscape of high-tech manufacturing supply chains.
Leveraging a diverse industrial portfolio and inter-industry synergies, Shanghai Electric has achieved a comprehensive robotic supply ecosystem, encompassing robot housings, applications, key components, and core manufacturing equipment, delivering reliable and cost-effective automation solutions to global industrial automation operators. The exhibition at CIIF 2025 featured specialized robots like Lingteng (pipe inspection), Linghang (patrolling), Lingyao (wheeled), Lingke (dual manipulator), and Hengsun (hip joint surgery system), along with humanoid robot components.
Combining heritage with innovation, Shanghai Electric showcased a special exhibition named “The Age of Energy,” highlighting historical artifacts, including the first steam turbine measuring instrument in China, capable of handling 6,000 kilowatts. This exhibit reflects the company’s engineering heritage and reliability, serving as a cornerstone for delivering megascale projects worldwide.
Looking Ahead
In the future, Shanghai Electric plans to continue supporting the synergistic evolution within energy and industry sectors, enhancing and modernizing core technologies toward a future defined by 'unbounded industrial innovation and intelligent manufacturing.' With new qualitative productive forces as a driving force for high-quality development, Shanghai Electric aims to propel the new industrialization of Shanghai and China through innovation-driven growth, tangible achievements, and high-tech transformation.
