ASUR Reports June 2025 Passenger Traffic Figures Amid Mixed Trends in Colombia, Mexico, and Puerto Rico

ASUR Reports Passenger Traffic for June 2025

Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A.B. de C.V. (ASUR), a prominent airport operator in Latin America, has recently revealed its passenger traffic statistics for June 2025. The cumulative total for the month reached approximately 6.0 million travelers, which signifies a decrease of 1.8% year-over-year when contrasted with June 2024. This report provides a closer look at the traffic dynamics across the airports managed by ASUR, particularly focusing on Mexico, Colombia, and Puerto Rico.

Mexico Passenger Traffic

In Mexico, ASUR documented a decline in total passenger traffic compared to the previous year, amounting to 3,263,212 in June 2025—a drop of 2.8% from June 2024, when 3,357,243 passengers were recorded. This decrease is partly attributed to declines in both international and domestic flights, with international traffic falling by 3.4% and domestic traffic loss of 2.1%.

Breaking down the numbers, Cancun International Airport (CUN) remains a significant hub, accounting for a large proportion of traffic. In June 2025, it served around 2.39 million passengers, a 3.6% decrease from the 2.48 million in June 2024. Similar decreases were observed in other airports, such as Huatulco (HUX) which saw a dramatic fall of 17%.

Performance in Colombia

Conversely, Colombia showed a contrasting upward trend, achieving a 1.7% increase in total passenger traffic year-over-year. The total recorded was 1,474,224 passengers in June 2025, up from 1,448,982 in June 2024. The boost was primarily supported by a significant 13.3% increase in international traffic, greatly outpacing a slight decline in domestic travel.

Most notably, the international traffic at Medellín's Rionegro Airport (MDE) surged, contributing to this growth. The total domestic traffic was just slightly down by 1.4%, which hints at a resilient and recovering travel demand in the Colombian market.

Puerto Rico's Mixed Performance

Meanwhile, Puerto Rico depicted a mixed performance, with total passenger numbers falling by 3.3%. The total passenger count for San Juan's Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) was 1,254,753, down from 1,297,862 last year. Nevertheless, international traffic indicated positive signs with a notable rise of 9.2%. Despite facing challenges, such as a 5.1% reduction in domestic traffic, the airport continues to attract international travelers, which is a hopeful indication for its future recovery.

Summary of Key Metrics

The following is a summary of passenger traffic changes for June 2025 compared to June 2024:

  • - Total Passenger Traffic: 6.0 million (down 1.8%)
  • - Mexico: 3.26 million (down 2.8%)
  • - Colombia: 1.47 million (up 1.7%)
  • - Puerto Rico: 1.25 million (down 3.3%)

In summary, while the overall passenger traffic figures from ASUR for June 2025 reflected a slight contraction, varied performances across different countries highlight a complex recovery landscape in the aviation industry. Mexico continues to face challenges, while Colombia demonstrates growth potential, and Puerto Rico shows resilience in its international sector, suggesting a varied recovery trajectory across ASUR's operations. The data exclude transit and general aviation passengers, focusing solely on commercial traffic, providing a clearer picture of the travel market's dynamics.
