Matilda and Kagome Launch Parent-Child Food Experience Project in the City

Introduction

On April 18, 2026, the company Matilda, based in Koto City, Tokyo, initiated a collaborative project with Kagome Co., Ltd. The primary goal is to create a unique three-part experience focusing on food and farming for urban families. With the motto of fostering a society where children can maintain their innocence, Matilda seeks to bring families closer to nature while living in a bustling city.

Project Overview

The first of the three events took place at ‘Agris Seijo’ in Setagaya Ward, where families engaged in seasonal vegetable harvesting and planting, along with a cooking experience. This project allows urban families to reconnect with soil, grow vegetables, cook, and enjoy their self-cultivated ingredients.

Hands-on Farming Experience

The initial theme was "Spring Farm Debut! Let's Plant Our Seedlings!" Parents and children ventured into the fields, where children, who rarely have opportunities to interact with soil, expressed excitement and curiosity. Witnessing them harvest robust komatsuna, bok choy, and lettuce revealed their genuine astonishment as they felt the weight of the freshly picked vegetables.

During seed sowing for mizuna and radishes, eager young hands carefully placed seeds into the soil. Kids also personalized their plots with name tags, indicating a growing fondness for the vegetables they will nurture. This provided a valuable prelude to their second experience in May, where they will harvest the vegetables they planted.

Cooking with Fresh Ingredients

Following the farming activities, families had fun preparing a "Veggie Smoothie" and an "Original Hamburger" using their freshly harvested greens. The experience of cooking and consuming vegetables they picked themselves amazed the children, many of whom were spotted with beaming smiles while enjoying their creations.

Additionally, they had the opportunity to utilize Kagome’s special tool, the "Veggie Check®," a device that measures vegetable consumption levels simply by placing a palm on the sensor. Enthusiastic kids expressed their determination to increase their vegetable intake by the next measurement. Throughout the three experiences, children were also given observation diary kits and bookmarks to record the growth of their plants, encouraging them to document their journey creatively.

Upcoming Events

This program consists of three continuous experiences, aimed at deepening the understanding of food sources for families. The registration period for the project has closed, but media inquiries are welcomed.
  • - Second Event (Scheduled for May 16): First time harvesting personal vegetables and creating picnic lunches.
  • - Third Event (Scheduled for July 4): A harvesting festival culminating in a summer vegetable curry party.

Project Intent

Matilda launched with a mission to create a society that allows children to remain innocent and joyful. They aim not only to deliver family dinners but also to enrich everyday experiences surrounding mealtimes. By exposing children to how delicious meals come to be, and introducing them to local nature and communities, Matilda fosters opportunities for children to engage with society and discover excitement in food.

This initiative has been made possible through partnerships with Kagome, Agris Seijo, and Lovegraph, all of whom resonate with Matilda's vision. Moving forward, Matilda is dedicated to providing content and experiences that make children's daily lives a little more enjoyable, in addition to their evening meal offerings.

About Matilda

Matilda’s dinner offerings feature over 800 menu options, including seasonal dishes and meals that introduce children to diverse cultures and social issues, creating engaging food-related content. Each experience—whether it be interacting with staff, receiving meals from Matilda stations, or reminiscing about special moments—serves a greater purpose aligned with Matilda’s mission.

Orders can be placed easily through LINE, allowing families to customize delivery frequency and meal sizes. Same-day orders are also available within limited quantities from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, providing an accessible option for families looking for home-cooked meals.
