From May 23rd to June 29th, HANA・BIYORI, operated by Yomiuriland, invites visitors to its stunning firefly viewing event titled “Hotarubiyori.” This unique floral park has been cultivating fireflies since 2009, creating an enchanting atmosphere in a beautifully arranged river environment. The event runs for a total of 37 days (excluding June 12th) and offers guests an opportunity to witness the mesmerizing glow of Genji fireflies in mid-June, followed by the softer light of Heike fireflies.

Firefly Viewing Details

The event’s operational hours are from 7:40 PM to 9:00 PM, providing an ideal setting for the delicate beauty of these creatures. Tickets for firefly viewing are priced at 400 yen for elementary school age children and above; preschool children can enjoy this experience free of charge. Additionally, visitors will need to purchase an entrance ticket to HANA・BIYORI, which costs 800 yen for junior high school students and 500 yen for elementary school students. It’s important to note that firefly viewing requires a dedicated ticket, which can be reserved in advance.

Educational Programs and More

HANA・BIYORI aims to enhance the experience with a variety of educational initiatives, including daily workshops where staff will explain the ecology of fireflies. This year, the program is designed to be more interactive, allowing guests to engage deeply with the subject matter. The workshops will take place at the Parabo Latcho area, a symbol of HANA・BIYORI, where guests can learn about firefly habitats and how to appreciate their beauty more effectively.
