AllianceBernstein Reports Strong Results for Third Quarter 2026 with Significant Net Inflows and Increased Earnings
AllianceBernstein Reports Impressive Third Quarter Results
AllianceBernstein L.P. and AllianceBernstein Holding L.P., trading under NYSE: AB, disclosed their financial accomplishments for the quarter ending September 30, 2026. The firm achieved a notable GAAP net income of $0.79 per unit, alongside an adjusted net income of $0.88 per unit, reflecting a robust performance despite challenging market conditions.
In the third quarter of 2026, AllianceBernstein experienced remarkable firmwide net inflows totaling $6.6 billion, marking the most successful quarterly flow result in the last four years. Seth Bernstein, the company's Chief Executive Officer, underscored how these inflows equate to an annualized organic growth rate of approximately 3%. The surge in inflows was largely driven by strong institutional demand, particularly across both liquid and illiquid credit sectors, showcasing a substantial appetite for private assets.
The company's Alternatives and Multi-Asset Solutions (MAS) segments benefitted significantly, generating net inflows of $15 billion. This included the onboarding of around $12 billion in commercial mortgage loans noted in the previous quarter, achieving a seventh consecutive quarter of organic growth in this asset class. Bernstein noted that while institutional interest in private assets has been a principal driver, the alternatives/MAS division saw organic growth across all three distribution channels, even when excluding the commercial mortgage loans.
September 30, 2026, saw the firm's Total Assets Under Management (AUM) rise to $900.4 billion, a 4.7% increase from the previous quarter. Institutional channels were particularly strong, yielding nearly $16 billion in net inflows by leveraging market share gains in private markets. Tax-exempt fixed income recorded $1.6 billion in net inflows despite turbulence in the municipal market, while the taxable fixed income experienced modest positive results amid strong institutional inflows offsetting retail redemptions.
When examining equity performance, demand leaned more towards passive strategies, which attracted $2.5 billion from institutional and private wealth clients, whereas active equity strategies saw continued outflows totaling around $13 billion.
The firm presented adjusted net revenues of $904 million, up 2.2% from the previous year, alongside stable adjusted operating income. The adjusted earnings per unit and distributions to unitholders rose 2.3% to $0.88 in line with their growing bottom-line performance, reflecting management's commitment to providing value to their investors.
The last quarter also revealed challenges, particularly with retail channels that faced over $8 billion in net outflows due to pressures within active equities and rate-sensitive redemptions in taxable fixed income. However, the alternatives/multi-asset solutions and tax-exempt segments showcased resilience, maintaining positive demand.
Bernstein expressed optimism regarding future growth, stating, "Our results this quarter illustrate the extensive capabilities of AB’s platform, as we effectively navigated across key growth areas including insurance, private markets, separate managed accounts (SMAs), and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).” He added that the strategic onboarding of EQH's commercial mortgage loans further established their private markets platform, enhancing their ability to scale offerings across various sectors including third-party insurance, wealth management, and retirement solutions.
This ongoing emphasis on operational efficiency and the ability to deepen strategic partnerships reinforces AllianceBernstein's position in the market and its commitment to delivering sustainable growth for clients and unitholders alike.
The firm announced a cash distribution of $0.88 per unit will be payable on November 19, 2026, to holders of record as of November 6, 2026. As for market performance in the third quarter of 2026, global equity and fixed income markets exhibited mixed results, with fluctuations across various indices highlighting the dynamic economic landscape.
The upcoming quarters are set to be critical for AllianceBernstein as they leverage their growth across both institutional and retail channels, demonstrating resilience against external market pressures while focusing on enhancing client offerings and achieving long-term shareholder value.
