American Public University System's Commitment to Veterans
The American Public University System (APUS) is proud to announce its partnership with Wreaths Across America (WAA) to honor our nation’s heroes by sponsoring wreath-laying events at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, West Virginia. This collaboration underscores APUS's commitment to remembering and honoring those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Honoring Veterans Through Action
On December 14, 2024, as part of National Wreaths Across America Day, APUS will contribute over 600 wreaths to be placed on the graves of veterans at the cemetery. This initiative aims to unite communities across the country in honoring veterans and their sacrifices. Danny Roby, Vice President of AMU Brand Expansion and Business Development, emphasized the university's deep-rooted commitment to supporting military members and their families. "Honoring the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans aligns closely with our mission at APUS," stated Roby, who himself served in the U.S. Air Force.
APUS encourages its students, alumni, faculty, and the general public to partake in this vital initiative. Participation in National Wreaths Across America Day provides an opportunity for everyone to contribute to the recognition and memorialization of those who have dedicated their lives to protecting freedom. APUS has been a supporter of Wreaths Across America since 2011, demonstrating a long-standing tradition of paying tribute to those who served.
Significance of Volunteering
Mauricia Blackwell, Vice President of Human Resources at APUS, highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating, "Volunteering with Wreaths Across America reflects our dedication to ensuring that the legacies of those who served are never forgotten. Our commitment is to educate future generations about the true cost of freedom."
In a remarkable show of support, APUS has exceeded its initial goal of sponsoring 300 wreaths, affirming the community's generosity and dedication. Beyond sponsoring wreaths at Edge Hill Cemetery, APUS will honor veterans at select locations through the laying of fresh balsam wreaths and moments of tribute.
How the Public Can Get Involved
The general public is invited to participate in this significant occasion. Contributions can be made in various ways:
- - Sponsor a Wreath: Every $17 sponsorship ensures that a wreath is placed on a veteran's grave.
- - Volunteer: Individuals can join local ceremonies to help lay wreaths and pay respects to those who served.
- - Teach: Sharing the mission of Wreaths Across America helps ensure that the sacrifices of service members are not forgotten.
